The cozy and quaint interior, combined with friendly staff, creates a welcoming environment perfect for enjoying a delightful ice cream treat. The shop is clean and well-maintained, with a nostalgic feel that adds to the overall experience.ServiceThe service at Monte Pelmo is exceptional. The staff are not only friendly but also knowledgeable about their wide range of flavors. They are eager to offer samples and help you choose the perfect flavor, ensuring you have a personalized and enjoyable experience. Despite the popularity of the shop, the service is prompt and efficient, with minimal waiting time even during busy periods.Ice CreamThe highlight of Monte Pelmo is, without a doubt, its ice cream. The shop offers a diverse selection of flavors, ranging from classic favorites to unique, inventive creations. Here's a closer look at some of the standout options:Classic Flavors: The vanilla and chocolate are rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced, showcasing the high-quality ingredients used. These timeless flavors are executed with perfection.Fruit-Based Flavors: The mango and strawberry sorbets are incredibly refreshing and bursting with natural fruit flavor. They are light, yet intensely flavorful, making them a perfect choice for a warm day.Specialty Flavors: Monte Pelmo also excels in its specialty flavors. The pistachio ice cream is a standout, with a deep, nutty flavor and a wonderfully smooth texture. Another favorite is the tiramisu, which captures the essence of the classic dessert with its rich coffee and mascarpone notes. The texture of the ice cream is consistently smooth and creamy, demonstrating the meticulous crafting process behind each batch. The flavors are well-balanced, never overly sweet, and the use of high-quality, natural ingredients is evident in every bite.Overall ExperienceMy visit to Monte Pelmo Ice Cream Shop was a delightful experience. If you haven’t been to Monte Pelmo in Amsterdam yet, what are you even doing with your life? Seriously, stop whatever you’re doing and go get some gelato because this place is LEGENDARY. I stumbled upon this little gem in the Jordaan, and I think I might’ve found my new happy place.

I was greeted by the friendliest staff (like, I’m talking ‘we could be best friends’ level of nice), and then I was hit with the toughest decision of the day: what flavors to choose! After much deliberation (and maybe a little panic), I went for pistachio, hazelnut, and a wild card—stracciatella. And let me tell you, it was like a flavor explosion in my mouth. The pistachio? So good, I’m convinced they’re grinding the nuts by hand in the back or something.

The gelato was perfectly creamy, not too sweet, and full of real-deal ingredients. I was basically transported to an Italian vacation without leaving Amsterdam. Oh, and the portions? Huge! I practically needed a forklift to carry my cone.

If you love gelato (and who doesn’t?), do yourself a favor and get to Monte Pelmo. Your taste buds will thank you. Just be prepared—you might never settle for average ice...

During a recent visit to the Netherlands, I had the pleasure of discovering “Monte Pelmo”, an ice cream shop in Amsterdam that offers a particularly noteworthy gelato experience.

Upon entering, one is presented with a considerable selection, featuring approximately 30 different flavours of gelato. I specifically chose the Pistachio and Hazelnut flavours. Both proved to be outstanding. The intensity of the flavour in each was remarkable; the hazelnut tasted genuinely rich and nutty, while the pistachio delivered a deep, authentic taste of the nut.

The location of Monte Pelmo is also a significant advantage. It is conveniently situated near several prominent Amsterdam landmarks, including the Anne Frank House, the Amsterdam Tulip Museum, and the Amsterdam Cheese Museum. The surrounding area is also very pleasant, featuring various other eateries and picturesque canals, making it a lovely neighbourhood to explore on foot.

Whether you are exploring the area and find yourself desiring a sweet treat, or if the weather is warm and you are seeking something refreshing, stopping here is highly...

Small neighbourhood shops seem to be in short order these days. Many seem to be shuttering their doors to give way to larger, global chains serving predictable fare. So much to my pleasure it was heartening to see that this street in Jordaan still retains a number of seemingly independent shops serving food and treats from a seasonal and changing menu. This gelato store in the heart of this bustling food alley became a frequent stop for us during our stay. We tried and ordered the hazelnut, cappuccino, pistachio and some other flavours during our routine post lunchtime pilgrimage to grab a cone (or a cup in my preference). The gelato is very smooth as you would expect, the service is quick, friendly and engaging. The flavours feel authentic and delicious. The pistachio was strangely sweet but then had a roasted pistachio aftertaste to follow up. If you are in the area and have the kind of sweet tooth that only gelato can fill, then I recommend stopping by. They also had an admirable selection of fresh fruit sorbet is which we did not get the chance to sample.
