Tried to visit this restaurant tonight with my wife after arriving in Amsterdam. We walked in and asked the hostess if there was a table for two available. She immediately turned her nose up and said "don't you want to look at a menu first?" I thought that was a very strange way to greet guests in a restaurant, but okay. So we took a quick look and the menu was fine. The stuck up hostess was nowhere to be found and the bartender sort of glanced at us and we said the menu looked good and he said you can sit there -motioning to a counter in the bar area that faced the exterior window. We sat down and were completely ignored for a good 15 minutes. They clearly did not want us dining there and I have no idea why. We were dressed appropriately, were polite and did nothing to offend anyone. I'm not sure if they are trying to portray themselves as some bougie place or thought perhaps we couldn't afford their 25-ish Euro entrees or what. But it's a pizza and pasta place - get over yourself. As we walked out I asked the hostess if there was a reason they didn't want to serve us and she said something to the tune of "if you want to leave, leave." It was so bizarre. We walked one block down the street and had a lovely dinner at another restaurant. So many restaurants and it's so hard to be successful, I just don't get it. Obviously we won't (attempt to) visit this...
Read moreI had high hopes for Assaggi, as a friend had raved about their amazing food and overall experience. Wanting to treat my girlfriend to something special, I made a reservation and arrived with excitement.
After putting away our jackets, we were shown to our table in a restaurant that was about half-empty. We expected the service to begin smoothly from there, but sadly, it did not.
The waiter left after seating us, and we assumed they were getting our menus. A quick glance at the cutlery revealed my knife wasn’t clean, but I thought I’d address it once we received the menus. However, the menus never came.
6 and a half minutes passed, and we started feeling confused. There was no acknowledgment, no offer of drinks, nothing. Just the two of us, sitting at our table, wondering what was going on. To make matters worse, another couple arrived shortly after us, and to our surprise, they were given menus promptly before us.
At that point, our patience had run out. Feeling disappointed and unwelcome, we decided to leave without experiencing the meal we’d been looking forward to.

Sadly, this was not the special experience we had hoped for, and I cannot recommend Assaggi based on...
Read moreDon’t get fooled by so many high ratings on this restaurant :) as I did. After your dinner waitress comes to you and asks if u have your phone with you and if u are ready to leave a review 😂 haha what is this joke. In general atmosphere in restaurant is nice. Waitress did her job fine too, but this request to leave a review shocked me a bit. ( since we are in “decent Italian restaurant” and not at Mario fast food truck lol) Food definitely overpriced for the quality we got. My gf got ravioli meal and one hour later she felt unwell and had a tummy ache. I got a beef cheek which was fine, but a bit blend with not much flavor in it. Starter with burrata and beetroot carpaccio was also blend and had not much flavor too. After I paid for dinner and left a tip, waitress immediately took it from our table lol, haven’t even waited till we leave. I believe this place wouldn’t have so many good reviews if the waitress wouldn’t put effort to force us leave a review immediately after we finished our dinner 😀 and the way waitress asked for review was not like “ Maybe if you enjoyed your dinner you would like to leave a review?, or something like that in more polite way, but not like “Do you have your phone...
