It was honestly pretty poor. The circuit is a loop from Westerkerk church, to Leidseplein, down the Pinsengracht and then back up the Herengracht back to the starting point, which took 1 hour and 20 minutes. When i purchased the tickets, the route pointed out to me on the map was not the route we took and was a lie. I specifically wanted the route she pointed out when I asked about it, and that was not the route we took at all, not even close to being the same route; meaning we missed out on some of the content I wanted to show my visitors.
Regardless, the route was okay, but the audio narration was horrific. They repeated the same information on multiple occasions, had large sections of blank audio that could have been filled with lots of information on the history of the city etc. It was a massive lost opportunity to inform tourists of many of the amazing things the city has to offer historically and culturally.
The configuration of the boat (although not my focal point of review or main point of contention, but for the sake of being informative) means you can be facing the wrong way which makes directional audio redundant, and for a "lovers" canal tour, the seats are in rows of 3 with opposite facing rows, so you might not get to sit with your partner or group.
I would recommend choosing a different provider, even if the route is similar. For this tour, you can get your ticket from tours and tickets, and if you take a coupon from any of the free maps around the city, you can get 5 EUR off your ticket. But even with the discount; it was 1 star compared to some of the other tours the city has to offer.
As a local, when people visit, I like to take them on a canal tour trip, and always use different providers to keep it different for myself. This one so far has been the worst, and i would recommend that this provider stops punting for tips and starts thinking about improving the quality of their content; remove the repetition which is pointless, and just fill in the massive voids of narration with...
Read moreWe booked one of the 1 hour tours which was advertised through an external company. We booked with a package so got a cheaper deal but that still doesn't excuse the poor quality of the tour.
Both me and my partner have been to Amsterdam several times and have experienced canal tours before which have been a lot more enjoyable and informative so we were expecting something of the same.
We arrived 15 minutes before our booked time slot as asked by the booking agent. After we boarded the boat it seemed unorganised outside the boat with a queue forming of people that seemed like they were also supposed to be catching that one but clearly couldn't fit.
Only one blanket provided per row but if your sat next to a complete stranger it's a little weird to share.
We couldn't hear anything any of the staff were saying as we were sat right at the back but other passengers were laughing away so clearly must have been something worth hearing.
The actual commentary was completely out of sync, we were hearing about things that we hadn't even reached yet and then by the time we got there it was already telling us about the next thing which led to a lot of people just taking their earphones out and just watching instead.
We were told we would be on board for 1 hour and ended up being nearly two because the staff kept asking the people at the front if they wanted to see more...
Probably wouldn't recommend but would suggest maybe a...
Read moreA very solid "meh". Get there. Get on the boat. Figure out you need to grab some free earbuds from a bucket, since this is an automated tour, with no live interaction with the boat captain. Not a single instruction, no happy welcome, no announcements. No invitation to pull out your snacks.
The open boat tour is provided by a different company and if you mess up and buy the wrong ticket, you're stuck.
Honestly nothing went wrong -- if you think of buyer beware, it's kinda that but in terms of you have to figure out everything yourself because not a single staff member is going to go out of their way nor make it personal at all.
Just very average and plain. The route also was petty much a big rectangle, very slow moving, and one large section was very plain.
The program was weird at best -- repeated facts. They were at the right time, generally. But it was limited, no ability to ask questions. For some people this might be the perfect way to do a cruise -- zero interaction. I'm generally ok with that, but this was just a pretty lame boat ride altogether, to be honest.
If you just want a cheap ride and make it what it's worth, it's cheap-ish and ok. If you're looking for a wonderful, inspiring or romantic experience,...
