Unfortunately, rude and arrogant. Please do not ask your clients if they enjoyed their meal if you are not interested in their real experience and feedback. The restaurant was so cold we had to leave our coats on. When I communicated this the response was “Yes, I know”…. Nothing else!? When the male waiter came to our table I ordered the Norwegian. His reply was “drinks first”. This was not said in a friendly way. It was like I had bad manners and he was correcting me? When the food came the egg was warm but everything else on the plate and including the plate felt like it came out of a freezer. Not surprising as by this time I had noticed the thermostat on the wall showed an ambient temperature of 16 degrees. I ate more quickly than I would have liked as the eggs were being cooled off by the cold plate. Then another waiter came to clear our table and asked if we enjoyed our meal. I replied that I don’t like to complain but the cold plate, cold toast and salmon meant that the warm eggs cooled so quickly that it was a little disappointing. Her reply was not friendly but again corrective. “Why are you telling me now when I can’t do anything about it” I replied that “I am telling you now because you asked if I enjoyed my meal. I did not tell you before because I needed to experience the meal before I could judge it. I don’t like to send food back and waste it. She repeated her frustration that there was nothing she could do now and it was too late for us to complain. I replied that the complaint was not really a complaint but feedback that she had invited when she asked if we enjoyed our meal. I also pointed to the thermostat on the wall which was still at 16 degrees and she went up to it and said the temperature was 31 degrees. She then walked away. No apology, no remorse, no concern for our feelings or experience. Just the self-absorbed, defensive arrogance of a person who really struggles with anything they perceive as criticism. My wife followed her to the bar to pay as she no longer felt comfortable or welcome. The lady at the barre said she did not want our money. My wife said that did not feel good and she still wanted to pay but our first male waiter rudely cut her off by saying “we are busy”. We then left without paying but with a very bad taste in our mouth and a feeling that this was not resolved in a mature or positive way. I suggest to all at Oeuf that you do “get busy”. Get busy learning how to treat your costumers as guests. Get busy learning how to invite and receive feedback. Get busy learning how to turn your heating on an hour before you open so it’s warm for your customers. Get busy warming your plates so the food is kept warm. Get busy reading all your one star reviews and addressing all the concerns of your dissatisfied customers. Most importantly get busy with kindness, compassion and open...
Read moreMixed feelings about our recent visit. While I had high expectations based on their social media presence, the reality unfortunately fell short in several key areas.
Let's start with the positives: The staff deserve recognition for their exceptional friendliness and attentive service. Their warm demeanor and genuine effort to make guests feel welcome stood out as the highlight of our visit.
However, there were significant issues that impacted our dining experience:
The most concerning aspect was being served with visibly dirty cutlery, which immediately raised hygiene concerns. This is a basic element of restaurant service that should never be overlooked.
We experienced notably long waiting periods.
Despite the restaurant's prominent social media presence and carefully curated photos, the actual dishes were underwhelming. The execution fell short of expectations, with the food being decidedly average in both presentation and taste. There's a noticeable disconnect between the restaurant's online presence and the actual dining experience. The carefully curated photos on their public pages paint a different picture from what diners actually encounter.
After reading other reviews, it seems experiences here tend to be polarized – diners either have an outstanding experience or share similar concerns to ours. While I appreciate the friendly service, the fundamental issues with cleanliness and food quality make it difficult to recommend at current prices.
A couple of suggestions for improvement: implement stricter quality control for kitchen cleanliness and utensils review kitchen workflow to address timing issues focus on consistency in food preparation and presentation better align marketing materials with the actual dining experience
In its current state, Ouef has potential but needs significant improvements to match its online presence and justify its positioning in Amsterdam's...
Read moreI ordered the Florentine benedict. While chewing my second bite into the dish I had the misfortune of experiencing a mouth full of sandy dirt complete with little rocks that overwhelmed my mouth becoming gross mud. I showed the waitress and she assured me that had never happened before and offered to replace the meal with something else. I had to go to the front to request water, no one thought to bring me any- the customer with the mouth full of crunchy dirt. I inquired while at the counter how that could of possibly happened. The waitstaff said they have no idea and referred the question to the kitchen who explained that the spinach in the florentine is pre-washed by the distributor it is purchased from and they add it to the big pot without checking it once it comes into the restaurant and a dirt clod must of been missed and then cooked into the batch. I wasn't upset, stuff happens. But no one checked on us after that. I had to approach the front for a second glass of water and the attitude i received was like I was inconveniencing the waitstaff. We waited for ages for the check after our meal. I made eye contact with multiple waitstaff but no one would come over. We were never asked how the meal was or given a chance to order additional drinks. Eventually I asked if we could get the check when the table next to us was being reset and the waitress recounted the bill to me as if I had turned the florentine away out of preference. I tried to explain what the experience had been like and she reacted defensively. The dirty food was weird but the reaction from the wait staff left me very unsettled. I don't know if they didn't believe me or had poor customer service skills or what was happening but it felt bad. Watch out for spinach and if you get a mouth full of dirt be prepared to fend...
