My friends and I had an extremely disappointing and uncomfortable experience at Oliva in Amsterdam. We were a group of seven women of color, excited to celebrate our friend's bachelorette night out. We had a reservation and were on the guest list because our friend was DJing at their event, but from the moment we arrived, things took a dark turn.
The trouble started when we approached the line, and a transgender woman who was working at the door treated us with outright hostility. Instead of assisting us with our reservation, she rudely instructed us to wait at the back of the line, dismissing our efforts to understand what happened to our booking. It felt as if she wanted to put us in our place and treated us like animals.
Ironically, we had expected an inclusive environment, considering that LGBT rights and the fight against discrimination are vital in our society. However, any notion of inclusivity was shattered as we faced prejudice and discrimination based on our skin color.
When my friend questioned the way she was being treated, the staff became even more aggressive and confrontational, leading to them eventually kicking us out of the establishment. It was a deeply hurtful experience, especially considering that the person at the door, who treated us so poorly, was herself transgender. It's disheartening to witness such behavior, especially from someone who should understand the struggles of discrimination and marginalization.
I strongly advise against supporting this establishment. The management and staff at Oliva clearly lack basic human decency and respect for people of color and different backgrounds. It's a shame to see such racism and sexism perpetuated in a place that should be promoting acceptance and understanding. Save your money and avoid Oliva at all costs. There are plenty of other welcoming and respectful places in Amsterdam where you can enjoy a night out without being subjected to such...
Read moreI recently visited Oliva Club in Amsterdam and had an extremely disappointing experience that I feel compelled to share. I purchased presale tickets online, which were naturally cheaper than buying at the door. When I arrived at the club around 1 AM, I noticed three lines: one for cops, one for presale tickets (my line, which was empty), and one for door ticket sales (which was more expensive and had a longer queue).
Upon reaching the front of the presale line, the security staff informed me that the night was "exclusively for students." This was clearly a cover-up to push more people into buying the more expensive door tickets, as I witnessed multiple non-students (clearly 40+ years old) being allowed to purchase tickets at the door and enter the club. The manager at the door seemed visibly embarrassed when I pointed this out, as it was obvious that the "student night" claim was a lie.
When I asked for a refund, the staff member was quick to offer one, but thatâs not the point. Itâs not about the moneyâitâs about the principle. The clubâs blatant discrimination and dishonesty left a sour taste in my mouth. The staff at the door, including the manager, were unprofessional and even laughed when I expressed that this was about the experience, not the money. Their attitude was dismissive and amateurish, showing a complete lack of respect for customers.
Oliva Club is clearly more interested in making a quick buck than providing a positive experience for its guests. The discrimination, lies, and poor customer service are unacceptable. I would strongly advise against visiting this club if youâre looking for a fun, fair, and professional night out. There are plenty of other venues in Amsterdam that value their customers and provide a better experience. Oliva Club needs to seriously rethink its approach to customer service and ethics if it wants to survive in the long run. Avoid this place...

During our visit to Amsterdam on December 4th, we decided to check out Oliva Club. Unfortunately, what we encountered was blatant discrimination. The security staff displayed a rude and dismissive attitude, making derogatory comments that left us feeling unwelcome. We also noticed a group of Arab men facing similar treatment, which highlighted a consistent pattern of unfriendliness toward foreigners.
Itâs disheartening to see the club responding to negative reviews with promises of inclusivity and claims that they will âlook into the matter seriously,â while the reality reflects otherwise. If the club does not want to welcome foreigners, it would be more honest to state that clearly at the entrance rather than feigning openness in responses to reviews.
I hope Oliva Club genuinely reconsiders its approach and improves its treatment of all guests, regardless of their background. Until then, I would not recommend this venue to any...
