Firstly, let me preface by saying cafe Caron is one of my favorite restaurants in Amsterdam. Iâve been over 8-9 times and same with petit Caron. The food, wine list and service has been fantastic. However this is my first time visiting the new location and I was thoroughly disappointed.
The new Lowell wine was not as good as it use to be, the previous years back in 2019/2020 were fantastic but the new one I did not understand. Secondly, the scallops came almost cold in a strange sauce that felt like it had been prepped and taken out the fridge. Tasted nothing like fresh scallops. The waiter was very attentive and apologized and gave us new ones but did not deduct the old ones from the bill. Strange service there but whatever it was good once we got new ones, but it wouldâve been a bit extra to remove them. I wonât complain.
Thirdly, the chicken was fantastic and so was the sauce and salad. However the potato was one small cold piece of layered thin potato. Again: strange? It was cold and slightly too hard for being thin layered. Also who gives one piece of potato for an entire chicken thigh?
Overall it was a disappointment. I use to love this restaurant and the food, however this was just very meh. Not what you expect to receive at this price point. I was so excited and left disappointed. Staff was helpful but wouldnât say overly friendly. That might just be Amsterdam service but I remember it much better than this.
Until next...
Read moreProbably ruddest service I've experienced in recent memory. Following a 35 minute wait for the Cote de Beouf we got a large, pretty but cold steak - with the accompanying purree even colder. Amazed, we asked to return it. A new waiter then showed up at our table and promised it just needs a few more minutes of cooking (?!) so we gave it a try. What we then received was unevenly cooked, with the first bite well done and second being cold still. What then followed was a first for me - and I've been around - the waiter rudely asked to TOUCH it and check if it's indeed cold as we claim! At that point we angrily asked for the check - which quickly arrived with the steak dish in it! The waiter claimed he "gave us a special price". At that point the waiter also commented that a Cote de Boeuf takes 45 minutes to prepare and we should've known that (we've been there for 1.5 hours at that point, finished two terrific starters and a bottle of wine). The waiter also rudely asked where we are from, clearly hinting that our nationality might be the reason we asked to return the dish. Not wanting to make a scene we ended up paying for a dish we didn't eat. A real shame as the rest of the food, wine and ambience were all great and we got a few recommdations for the place. We actually ended up finishing our dinner at the next door restaurant which will receive its own...
Read moreI hate to leave a bad review, but I also cannot leave this situation that occurred tonight without letting the future customers and the owners of the restaurant know. Most of the staff were amazing and most professional, but oh that one lady⊠She forgot our cutlery, then forgot to explain to us that a meat platter will be actually made from just one type of meat ( which is fine, we would have just gone for another option, but maybe make your customers aware you are missing ingredients?). Then when i ordered sparkling wine i clearly pointed to the one costing a lower price. In the end she brought us the bill for the most expensive wine. When i called her, nicely and calmly apologizing for inconvenience, and asked to correct the bill, she rudely stared at me saying she is not the one making the mistake. Mistakes happen and as a customer I do not expect being rude to if the waiter brings the wrong stuff. In this way restaurant can fool any customer and make them pay more for what they have not ordered. This rudeness was just outrageous. I came to celebrate my birthday to a definitely not the cheapest place and she just messed up the whole...
