🏨 Leonardo Boutique Musuemhotel - Amsterdam, Netherlands 🇳🇱 Staying in Oud Zuid for the first time, I was surrounded by art and culture. It was slightly pompous but generally a nice and clean place to be — VERY different from Amsterdam Centraal, which is where I believe I belong. #amsterdam #hotel #europe #travel #review

I pre-booked this hotel for my trip to Amsterdam with family. It was convenient location to catch tram (about 5-6 minutes walk). Hotel was nice and clean and reception staff were friendly. We got our two rooms straight away. Had to pay city tax like any other European city which was €28 for one night stay in two rooms. Rooms were good size and clean. Had tea making facility and air-con in the room. Breakfast was very basic. I asked for fried egg but the chef said they don’t do that. No toaster for the bread. They ran out of yogurt pretty quick too. The reception staff asked about our stay and I gave my feedback on the breakfast, they apologised and said my feedback will be passed over. The next day I got an email from the hotel to say that I had left my makeup bag there. They logged it in their lost property book and said anyone can re-claim on my behalf. If I wanted it delivered it would be €79 charge. This was way too expensive so I decided to get my friend to pick it up. I will update this review once my item has been found. Will recommend staying here.

The hotel room is small: it's hard to tell from the hotel website pictures ( they are accurate but the angle is clever). Coming from another 4* hotel from another European city, it shocked me. But I guess it's just like Tokyo's. There will be city charge at the hotel, about 15€. The breakfast buffet, 16€, unfortunately is not a good deal. It's pretty standard American/Western breakfast, nothing stands out as Dutch food. If I knew, I would probably save the money and go to nearby cafe. Staff are friendly. Like they have fresh fruits for guests in the lobby too.

The good location and good breakfast in this hotel don't compensate for the atrocious customer service, our holidays were ruined by the hotel's rude and unfriendly front desk personnel, some of them, quite frankly racist attitude. Following the rules and regulations imposed by the hotel, we promptly requested within the stipulated time-frame (before 11 AM) for our room to be cleaned, however, when we arrived back from the city at late hours in the afternoon or night, the clean the room sign was still hanging in our room, no cleaning service provided. The first time it happened, we were willing to believe it was a glitch, and kindly requested cleaning service again, unfortunately this happened again and then again and again 3 times during our 9 days stay, when we naturally got frustrated and wanted to complain at the front desk, we were badly chastised and reprimanded by the rude young Caucasian looking 'employees' who aggressively demanded us to lower the tone of our voice, we never saw the same treatment to other guest with different lighter color of skin, I guess the amount of melatonin our ancestors were exposed in the past dictate the way the people at this hotel treat its paying customers. Lighter skin = your money is good, you are a customer; not so light skin = we take your money but we will treat you as delinquents who are invading our sacred space. We will never stay in this hotel again, we will happy bring our business to other equally well located hotels who know how to treat people by the content of their character and not the color...

My fiancé and I very much enjoyed our stay at the Leonardo Boutique Hotel. I have stayed at this hotel before. The staff is generally friendly and helpful. There is a typical continental breakfast with an egg station available for those who want to pay for breakfast at the hotel. The location is perfect for those who want to explore the museum area--it is a five-minute walk to the museumplein and just a bit further to the Heineken Brewery. The Holland Casino and the Hard Rock Cafe (for those who want the tourist experience) are right across the street.

The room we were in was lovely and spacious and we appreciated that the queen bed was a true queen and not two twin beds pushed together. I was disappointed that there is no longer a sit-down bar in the hotel with a bartender on staff. In addition, we were frustrated with the shower in our room in that it flooded the bathroom floor whenever we used it. The drain did not appear to be working well even with quick showers. If anyone has difficulty with steps, please be aware that there appears to be no handicapped entrance to the hotel. You must walk up about 7 steps to get to reception. And one of their two elevators was out of order while we were staying there.

Ultimately, though, I do recommend the Leonardo Boutique Hotel and would stay...

The location is great. And I started out liking the hotel quite a bit. Unfortunately over the course of our 8-night stay, my opinion dropped considerably.

  1. The rooms are small and don’t use the space they do have for effective storage for luggage etc.
  2. The coffee boutique is not staffed enough to be open. Every night we tried to have a drink there, service was slow. The final night of our stay, there was not enough staff to cover the lunch break of the only worker, so we waited nearly an hour before anyone helped us, despite getting up and asking several times. I do not blame the staff for this; it is poor hospitality on the management’s part.
  3. The rooms are not very clean. When we put out our clean sign, the bed was made and towels changed, but no other cleaning was done.
  4. The breakfast is disorganized. They require meal vouchers, but often do not have someone at the entrance there to take your vouchers. The first day of our stay, we were not given meal vouchers and were treated with disdain when they approach add us midway through our breakfast to ask for them.

I wanted to like this hotel, especially with the excellent location. But the price absolutely does not match the value of the...
