I cannot say definitively if the restaurant is at fault, but 3 of 4 of us that got the Chef menu left sick and I at least vomited. I would say that the service and food is at a moderate to poor level at best. Not great nor terrible. The dishes were occasionally random and or ill conceived. Example is the scallops with an enormous puff pastry, and the torched scallops flavors was subpar and the puff could easily be a simple frozen pastry you bought at the store. Various other subsequent courses were attempts at flavor layering and complexity that unfortunately fell flat. There were some dishes that were clearly poorly done and the constant oscillation between raw and cooked food felt forced. As a plus, I will say that they were quite generous with the wine that was paired with our 6 course meal, however that may have contributed to the sick feeling, hard to be definitive.

My conclusion is that I have no intention of returning and I wouldn't recommend it for others either, as it felt like a poor value for money for Amsterdam. I do recommend the restaurant remove the Chefs menu and go for more simplified dishes, as I don't feel the culinary sophistication is high...

Simply put, this is best restaurant in Amsterdam. And I’ll tell you why.

From the moment you walk into this cozy establishment, you are greeted with a smile by Reb. The restaurant only has about 10 tables in total, but Reb single-handedly takes care of all of them. He is the best at what he does. He sets the standard. Any request I had (and I had a few) he catered to with no hesitation and with a smile on his face. And he did this with ALL the tables as well, I saw it myself.

Onto the food now. I had the 3 course menu. For appetizer, I had the steak tartare, which I’m not usually a fan of but this one was SO good, I cleaned the plate pretty much. Main course, I had duck breast. You NEED to get the duck breast. I’m sure the other items are good, but this duck was on another level… and the greens and sauce it came with were delightful as well. For desert, I had what I believe to be the cheesecake which was also great. 10/10 service, 10/10 food, would definitely come back here again when I’m...

17 June 2024:

After a long time, visited Le Hollandais again with a friend from Brazil. I've eaten there several times before, and each time it's a delight. Chef Reb never disappoints. It's so cool that he serves his guests himself.

We opted for the 3-course chef's surprise menu, and it was top-notch! If you want 5-star dining, this is the place to go. There may not be a Michelin star next to his name, but as the chef himself says, you (his guests) are his Michelin stars. Ah, how touching and sweet.

Aug 2023: What a surprise for us! We ended up there unexpectedly, completely flabbergasted.

You can choose from à la carte dishes or opt for surprise menus starting from 3 courses (with or without wines). The cuisine is amazing, and Chef Reb is 👌🏾.

Highly...

Coming from a NYC resident, this was some of the best French food I've had and a lovely dining experience. I can't comment on day-to-day consistency, but tonight every single dish was prepared to perfection. I was equally enamored by the warm service, with explanations of each course on the surprise menu and a willingness to modify anything to our tastes (portion sizes, sweetness, etc.). It's wonderful to see a restaurant put their customers' palates first. As a petite Asian woman, the 6-course (€69) was more than enough food; would downsize to 4/5 if you're less hungry. Tldr; you would be doing yourself a disservice by not trying Restaurant Le Hollandais. I would recommend coming for a date night or to celebrate a special occasion. Can't wait to return the next time I'm in Amsterdam!

One of the best restaurants in Amsterdam, serving real food made with care. The ingredients used are all Fresh, the flavours work well together and its none of this nonsense that you see in so many restaurants of having something like one grilled asparagus with purée and foam as a dish - it’s complete meals with great meat and produce. The service is old school - wonderful waiter who knows his job and how to take care of guests, and a lovely owner, who is also the head chef, coming to serve each guest and explain the meals. The prices are so fair and for what you get it’s great value for money - it allows you to have a quality, finessed meal without taking out a mortgage - and you leave full.
