Waited an hour and a half to simply get our order taken. We asked at least 3 different waiters to take our order after having already waited 30-60 minutes and they all said 'one moment', and then never came back. When someone finally started to take our order (again, now after waiting for an hour and a half), we were matter-of-factly told that half the dishes we chose were sold out (which was its own annoyance because it is possible if we were given timely service, we would have been able to order those dishes, particularly as at that point the restaurant hadn't been open more than a couple hours, and we saw other patrons served the same dishes minutes prior). We asked for recommendations since we were just told the dishes we wanted were sold out, and the waiter promptly left, dismissively remarking, "let me know when you decide." Dreading another minimum 30 minute wait, we finally gave up, cut our losses, and left. The last straw was that we noticed at least 3 parties that came in after us getting served. As a party of 2, it's hard to think of a good explanation for this service. There was a clear hierarchy of guest importance based on the treatment we received, and noticed (in another instance we were told there was no room inside, and thereafter saw people invited in when they made the same request), and we did not appreciate that, nor the waste of time. It became clear that for whatever criteria we were not privy to (though we have unpleasant assumptions of what they may have been) the staff couldn't care less whether we had a reasonably pleasant experience or not, and further couldn't even care less if we were patrons of their establishment.
Note: I've been here 3 times. 1st time was neutral, good enough food. 2nd time, more than a year later, was actually planning to go to another restaurant nearby but it was closed-- okay service (should be minimum since we were 1 of 2 tables in the restaurant) and the food was not especially fresh. 3rd time-- see...
Read moreNour had probably been one of my favourite places in Amsterdam because their kebabs are quite good, and I used to go there very often. I also recommended them to my friends. There have been some ups and downs in service but I know it is a part of the restaurant business and I always thought the quality of their food made up for it.
However, sometimes their staff is so rude that it completely kills your mood. I went to pack some salad and bread and waited inside for a bit, using my phone to pass time. They gave me a plastic bag with my food, and as I start to walk out I get a tap on the shoulder from one of the staff who asks me to go to the counter.
I go back and the person at the counter asks me if I have received the bread. I start to open the bag and say I'm not sure, let me check. And meanwhile, he, who knows he has forgotten to pack my bread, makes an angry face and says - "if you would put away your phone for 5 mins, you would know".
I was so stunned that I just picked up the food and left. I mean it is YOUR responsibility to deliver my order in full, and you have the guts to comment on whether I should be using a phone inside your restaurant or not. I mean what business is it of theirs if I use my phone or not. And what a terribly rude thing to say. Forget customer service, forget an apology, they sometimes make you feel like they are doing a big favour by allowing you to eat their food.
It is really one of my worst moments in Amsterdam and I don't think I'm going...
Read moreA lovely place with a welcoming atmosphere and staff. Having tried many Iraqi restaurants back home, you'll develop a basic expectation of your usual menu. However, I was quite surprised to see a quarter of usual size of food, in broken plates! The Brynani had raw broad beans and very little chicken. I understand the cost of food and raw ingredients has risen, nevertheless, this doesn't mean you'll need to cut the food portion and let customer to leave hungry. After complaining to the owner, lady was kindly offering to bring more food, but we had no time to spare as we had to head to the road towards London. Hopefully they'll do better after this constructive feedback, if we...
