Restaurant Mesken BBQ — Restaurant in Amsterdam

Authentic Turkish food. As we travel on a limited budget, we look for places that offer buffets at reasonable prices. This is difficult to find in cities such a Amsterdam. Restaurant Mesken was the only place we located. It was necessary for us to take the tram into the Turkish quarter and then walk a short distance. The visit to the quarter was in itself a pleasant experience, giving us another view of the multiple societies within the European Communities. All of the other guests of the restaurant while we were there appeared to be locals of Turkish descent, so we determined that the food must be authentic to the community. I rated the restaurant less than 5 stars because the buffet was scant, compared to the usual offerings. The food was not especially to our liking, but that was our problem not theirs. It seemed to be entirely vegetarian or at least vegetation. Weekday appeared to be sauteed meats were most likely tofu or its equivalent. The highlight of the buffet was a soup, similar in appearance to tomato bisque, with a minty taste upon first spoonful, graduating into a combination of vegetable flavors that were distinct...

I found this place great. We opted for the buffet but there is an a la carte menu offered too. It was only €15.95 for the buffet with drinks costing €1.95 each.

There is a great selection of salads, starters and mains. You simply help yourself to a plate and cutlery, get what you want and return to your table. I thought the food was very tasty and was quite authentic in taste. It is one of the few turkish restaurants outside of Turkey that has had proper turkish rice which I absolutely love.

I would definitely recommend this place.

I am very very disoppinted with the behaviour of staff. Food was also not very good but i can ignore it. What i can not ignore is that they were sarcastic and racist. I never want to write such comments but they were very rude till end that made me feel bad! ( i asked if tea is included in buffet or not , and waiter made joke about it and made me feel as i can not pay and at the end he said rudly where did i come from?) If telling someone his boundaries has some relation with land of origin, then yes i am proudly from third world. I am not from Great Turkey! I feel sorry for owner as some of his workers are not behaving well...
