Ristorante Italia Oggi — Restaurant in Amsterdam

We had a great dinner at Italia Oggi last night and recommend it highly. Amsterdam has many excellent Italian restaurants, and we would place Italia Oggi among the top for a mixture of authenticity (traditional dishes) and innovation. It's pricier than some, but worth it for a special night out. We shared two mains, one traditional (spaghetti carbonara, which was fabulous) and one they'd recently introduced -- a ravioli made with cuttlefish ink stuffed with salmon. That might not sound amazing, but it was. Their house red, a Montepulciano, was excellent and reasonably priced. The home-made olive tapenade they serve with the bread was particularly tasty. Friend and I were looking for an Italian restaurant for dinner. We saw the good reviews on this place so decided to give it a try. We came around 19:30. It was quite busy but we could still find a spot for two.

We ordered a starter, main and dessert. At first we were served a different starter than what we ordered because the waitress misunderstood our order. But it turned out to be good and we enjoyed it as well as the rest of dishes, so still give the whole experience a solid 5/5.

One of the best Italian meals I have ever had. Our bruschetta classica was marvelously simple with fresh tomatoes we were able to drizzle with balsamic vinegar. The grilled prawns had a subtle but distinctive garlic and lemon sauce that paired beautifully with the shellfish. My wife's lasagna bolognaise was superlative- what lasagna should taste like.

The restaurant was slammed by an unexpected party of 20 shortly after we arrived. They added a lot of noise, but our service remained calm and attentive, resulting in a marvelous dining experience.

The only negative is that we will never return, as we are on a one-time European tour. But we can nonetheless give this restaurant our unequivocal...
