Acknowledge this, my review is not of the food, rather the really poor display in character by the owner. My friends and I came in for a quick bite to eat at Tony's NY City Bagels. The service of our food was crazy quick and the food and drinks were of a great quality against their price.
However, it was the interaction we witnessed between the owner and an Uber Eats Delivery Driver that was not only appalling but shocking in its own right. This interaction was easily viewable for whole cafe to watch; we sat in disbelief as the owner told the Uber worker to "go back to your own country" and to "go away; I don't want to see you ever again". This driver, presumably of Indian descent, left back to his table outside where he was actually a paying customer of Tony's, resuming drinking his coffee. The owner then proceeded to follow him outside and continue the argument, coming back inside to bad mouth the worker.
I can appreciate frustration due to others' mistakes; I can appreciate asking a disgruntled customer to leave for the sake of your remaining customers. However this Uber worker was remaining calm, apologised numerous times, and despite most likely being stuffing up an order for the restaurant, continued to try and fix the issue for the owner. This was beyond disappointing to watch, and I feel ashamed for giving money to this establishment - you will not see me here again.
To the owner, I hope you read this, reflect, and recognise your privilege. Check yourself. In that moment, you chose to be racist. This...
Read moreEdit: As a costumer, we should NOT have to ask if the cashier was talking about us, we are there to EAT! Of course we would be uncomfortable especially when the ENTIRE line turned to look at our family after his comment. This was our experience, and our review and feedback. We are again costumers, not people who work there that that need advice on what I need to be doing next time. 😊 Very silly to suggest “maybe ask next time if our team was speaking about you whilst you’re just trying to have breakfast”😂
Bagels were a bit tough to cut and bite into but the fillings were generous. The coffees were also lovely. Man serving the counter wasn’t really the friendliest to us, and made our experience here not as enjoyable. I think it was because we sat down on an empty table before ordering so that we could look at the menu more. Although it was busy, there were still plenty of seats. I think he made a comment on this, which led to nearly all the people in the line turning around to look down at us. Maybe there should be a “please wait here” sign if thats not what we were...
Read moreMy partner and I love to explore more different bagel shops in the city so we can find our favorite spot! Tony’s is currently on number one! We had the BLT and the Salmon cream cheese bagel (with avocado). The bagels were not too thick and still warm when they came out!
The BLT comes with a honey mustard sauce instead of mayonnaise (what I’m used to), but it was a really nice sause with a great flavor, and not too sweet! And my favorite part was ALL THAT BACON! It was a lot of bacon which I love! Only thing that I would personally change is the lettuce. Tony’s uses iceberg lettuce, which is fine but it falls out when you eat it and doesn’t have much flavor. So I would personally love like a butter lettuce or whole leaves of lettuce.
The Salmon cream cheeze bagel had the most delicious cream cheese I have tasted in a while! It was nice and creamy ofcourse and it fitted well with the salmon. The capers on the bagel where BIG and so juicy! Nice balance between the added avocado and the salmon. If you like a lot of smoked salmon definitely get this...
