I will start by saying that the check out experience was a total disaster. Not wanting to store two small cabin bags for the rest of the day it's a total deal breaker and unacceptable for me. Especially after the hotel staff accepted to store my luggage before the check-in. So, I would rate the check out service as bad. And excuses such as: "the kitchen team occupied all our storage" or "you can take a cabinet for 10 euro at the main station" sound pathetic and unprofessional. I know there is a disclaimer about the limited luggage storage capacity, but I think that the staff can behave more professional when they refuse to keep the luggage.
That aside, our stay at this hotel was pretty much ok. The location of the hotel is fairly central, close to the red light district. It takes only 20 minutes to walk to the main station. The hotel looks nice and it tries to combine the modern style with the classic style. However this is still a budget hotel, and the size of the room as well as the "not so comfortable" bed show a contrast with the hotel style. You can feel the lack of space when you have to move between the bed and the TV.
The breakfast was ok but not impressive and it costs 10 euro per person. The breakfast space is very small and it's very crowded in the morning. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful (except for the part with the luggage storage).
When I booked this hotel I had fairly high expectations. Because it was my first stay in a Motel One and considering the fact that I already have a loyalty card with another hotel chain I wanted to try something new.
Given the situation described above, I am disappointed and I can't recommend this hotel, or other Motel One hotels. Personally, after this experience, I will avoid Motel One for my future trips.
If it wasn't for the luggage storage issue, I would have rated a much better score to this hotel, but with this kind of service, I...
Read moreFor our trip to Amsterdam, we opt for this central Motel One, whose location is close to a metro station (Waterlooplein) and, above all, just a 10/12' walking to Dam Square, Nieuwmarkt and the Red Light District, also because of the previous positive experiences in other hotels of the chain.
A few big supermarkets are nearby too.
As per their standards, the room is pretty small and basic, with little or no furniture (there is a safe but not a mini fridge). Bathroom is small too but shower works well.
On the other hand, the reception area/lobby bar/lounge is spacious and nicely decorated.
Our stays at Motel One hotels are generally positive but this time we were disappointed.
When we checked-in on Sunday early afternoon, after a very short wait, we got the 1st surprise only after paying: they informed us that they've been experiencing in the last 2 days an IT issue for which key room cards couldn't be set and given to clients. Therefore, in order to access your room, a member of the staff must escort you (until technicians fix the problem, which luckily happened around dinner time).
Moreover, A/C was not working properly with consequences on the room temperature, which was unbearably hot (the first night we slept with open windows! 😲).
The Hotel Manager was on holiday. The Front Office Manager was absent (or we did not meet him) Lucrezia, Ilaria, Larissa, Thiago and all the others working at the reception did all they could with kindness and professionalism (thank you all guys, also for 1 free breakfast) but Solutions were not in their hands.
Some members of the housekeeping staff do not wear uniforms. And one morning they entered the room, despite the "do not disturb" sign.
Finally, BeOne membership benefits were not granted.
I am sure that this hotel runs generally smoothly and that this time was just a matter of bad luck. Would I give it another chance ? Honestly, I do...
Read moreWe have just returned from a four night stay here . It’s a mile from Centraal Station , costing 35 euros in a taxi at rush hour . There are handy transport links , with the metro around 600 yards away and the number 1 tram , which is a good link to others , around 400 yards away . |The hotel itself is design-led , with a striking teal / chocolate brown colour scheme, which works well . There is interesting decor throughout and the chairs in the bar are from a German design house and are extremely comfy . |Our room was warm and well insulated from traffic . It wasn’t a big room by any means , but worked for what we needed . The bathroom isn’t big , but has a great shower and a fitted hairdryer . |The main room has a free safe , a wall mounted tv and a desk / table . One thing to note is that there isn’t a wardrobe , but there are hooks and a rail to hang clothes up on ( around six hangers are provided ) . |What isn’t provided are tea and coffee making facilities . I think that they have omitted these because the breakfast is served from 6.am to 10 am and if you needed a “ brew “ then you could nip down . It’s isn’t a hardship not having them , but , personally , I missed it . |Reception doubles as the bar area and is warm and welcoming . Friendly , helpful staff are on duty and speak a variety of languages . There is a large selection of Gins and a reasonable choice of other drinks . |The breakfast is very good . There are the usual cheese / meat choices and various types of bread , as well as cereals , cakes , hard boiled eggs etc . It was easy enough to have a good breakfast that would get you through the day . |We highly recommend this hotel and will be looking to stay in other hotels from this group . It is well worth staying here if you are planning a trip...
