End of October 2022: I visited this place again, this time for a burger with a formidable load of fries. Let me stick a bit with the highlight for this place at this time: the fresh ingredients stand out! On both occasions, I am pleasantly surprised with that aspect of the place.
Back to my order this time, I specifically went for the smash beef burger, which comes with baked bell peppers and cheddar cheese in it, plus fries on the side (check the pics). I felt like I needed a bit more fries, so I ordered even more on the side. I had the option to choose ketchup or mayonnaise for that. As the drink, I went for a Fuze iced tea.
The burger was decent. This is one of those wow moments, where the bell pepper stripes surprised me. The meat itself was fine, especially at the price tag, it is difficult to think up an improvement point. Well done! 5/5 Fries? They were very nice, an also a very generous portion. For the price, really a masterwork. 5+/5
The iced tea was standard, and it came again with much ice, and a cut of lemon 5/5 , plus a wooden stirrer, which seems to be a signature of the Orff Cafe Restaurant. I haven't gotten a stirrer elsewhere.
This place has a consistently good food, and professionally friendly staff. I recommend them.
Beginning October 2022: I wanted to visit this place after I saw that they serve an item named Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich. The thing is, I have a friend in Philly, and he had been telling me things about Philly Cheesesteak. Posting it as a sold item picked my interest.
I was very pleasantly greeted when I arrived at the door. That has ought to leave an impression on everybody, so keep doing it! The place itself is decent. See, in the center of Amsterdam, there are many places that offer far less space per person (and their legs). Orff is offering decent comfort. Music is in the mid-quiet loudness range, which makes the place pretty good for having a relatively private conversation. It smells neutral. It looks clean. It is nicely decorated (check the photo). That is a 5/5 for the ambient, and of course, the location is pretty much in the city center.
Let's have a look at the food. I ordered 2x iced tea, their one and only Philly cheese steak sandwich, mixed salad, and a portion of fries.
The iced tea is standard, but they add their part to it — a glass full of ice, and also a wooden stirrer. A nice one, 5/5.
The sandwich itself is decent. I would say great for the price compared to other places vs. the content it offers. I got notes of meat (not sure which), baked onions, and cheese. The sandwich is served together with a slice of each: cucumber, tomato, and pickle. It was warm and decently tasting altogether. I will call it a 5/5, given the price tag. One thing, I sent a photo to my friend in Philly, and he lol'd at me. That didn't look like Philly Cheese Steak but, in all fairness, it also has a 'Sandwich' added to it, and it is a decent one.
The salad was fine. The biggest positive thing about it was that it was fresh, and at the price tag (compared to surroundings), it doesn't leave much headroom for improvement. That was a 5/5 too.

Read moreWe wanted a table, so we walked in. We were then greeted by the man with ginger hair behind the bar, who in fact had a clear attitude and looked like he did not want to be there. Eventually got a table and then did not come back again, very minimal service at most. The restaurant was mostly empty with the staff hanging around the bar - if you got time to lean, you got time to clean. One female server came over and asked, “if everything was okay,” and tried to order food but she did not understand. When I asked again she said, “we have multiple servers that can place food orders,” and then offered. At this point, it had been about 40 minutes wasted. As a tourist that visits often, the service was not great and the servers were not very friendly. How do you expect to thrive in the hospitality business if you are not very respectful to your customers? To be clear, this isn’t the first time this has happened to myself or others here. In the hospitality industry, time is money, every second counts, use it wisely. This was not the case here at this restaurant, they need some serious improvement. On a separate and last note, do not come to Café Orff if you are...
Read moreWe arrived for lunch (11.50am) but they still served breakfast till 12.30, so I decided to order a full English... There was one waitress and she didn't acknowledge us for 20mins. All other tables were full and only two tables had food.
I ordered a breakfast and my husband a club sandwich, the food took roughly 30mins to arrive. Club sandwich was ok, husband said that he expected the chicken to be warm? Breakfast was two cold slices of toast, cold very well done streaky bacon, three undercooked cocktail sausages and two perfect eggs! It all went back! It returned with all of it having been warmed up. I stuck the eggs in a bit of folded toast and left everything else. I visited the ladies, clean, but found that on my return my husband had paid the bill (quick to take your money)! just so we could get the hell out of there!! I left...
