More for the vibe than the food 🦩

With pancakes being a must in Amsterdam, I was very happy to find a place that wasn't a million miles from the city centre that could treat us to vegan pancakes 🥞

We ended up going twice during our stay, and as much as I loved this chic, hip, neon-loving cafe, I could have loved their pancakes more.

There's only a few vegan options, and since ice-cream for breakfast isnt something I'm too keen on, the easy choice was the 'The Blue Magic Deluxe'.

I really appreciated the inclusion of wholegrains, and emphasis on fresh fruit, but the pancakes itself were a little meh and honestly quite tasteless. Was very grateful for the genuine Canadian Maple Syrup to add some more flavour.

Also felt the 'vegan tax' here - vegan options being more expensive but the pancakes being significantly smaller and less impressive/fluffy than the non-vegan equivalent. And don't try and tell me it's not possible to do fluffy vegan pancakes (Mr Stacks in Amsterdam can prove you otherwise)

Would have also been nice if there was a chocolate-based option on the menu for vegans. We do actually like a treat, and pancakes with choc is a must!

That said, the coffee was outstanding, and bonus points for all the coffees being with oat milk. ✅

Also appreciated the...

Worst experience at breakfast I've ever had. Zero stars may be too generous.

My pregnant wife and I were seated early morning with only a handful of other guests there. We ordered a couple of pancake dishes and a tea and coffee. Drinks were mediocre at best.

The food never came. We ended up waiting a total of 40 minutes and watched 4 or 5 other tables sit down and get their food. We even asked the male server during this time if there was a problem with our order. He said it's not his responsibility but the kitchen's and it comes in the order it gets put in at and we should keep waiting.

My hungry wife was so upset waiting she had to leave the table to compose herself. I again went to the counter and saw the kitchen staff were standing idly. The female server said something had been mixed up and we could wait another 5 minutes for our order.

In the end we were son frustrated we decided to leave and go to Happy Pig Pancakes which was a much better choice where the order came in 2 minutes and was cheaper...

Spread across two stories with service that trends “American Gen Z,” IE a wait at the unmanned podium lasting several minutes despite the Restaurant being <10% full on Sunday, staff wonders around with iPads for ordering while Biggie and Nas take turns overhead. Clever across the menu, a €100 stack on Versace plates clearly targeting Social Media, Coffee proves fairly basic while the Pancakes themselves are akin to those at Denny’s with clever toppings like secret-recipe Saffron Pistachio Ice Cream or Fruits intended to elevate. Serving pure Canadian Maple Syrup, but so limited one can barely taste it and staff reluctant to offer more, menus offer a QR code for those desiring a franchise but in a city with more than enough Pancake houses offering better quality this one just feels like a gimmick targeting folks who fancy IHOP but need a photo for the #gram.
