Came here after not being serviced at all at the downtown location. Here, I waited at the entrance stand and the tall server lady with curly black hair saw me standing there but didn’t bother making eye contact or even just saying hello. She walked RIGHT past me too. She delivered a table’s food, walked back, thought she’d quickly seat me (or seat myself, which seems to be the going standard at this chain), but no, she took another table’s order while I continued to stand. After she took their order, she went back inside! Fed up, I walked in and another lady asked if I needed help and I told her what happened. She apologized saying the other lady was running the front alone but it takes (and took) all of under 10 SECONDS to hand me a menu and tell me to “sit anywhere”. Clearly service is not what this chain is known for.
Given this other lady’s kindness and professionalism, I decided to sit and order. Things went quite smoothly from this point on and even the curly haired lady took my order, was kind, and prompt. No issues at all.
I ordered the nachos and a soda. I finished the whole dish, but not because it was good but cuz I had been hungry. The chips were stale. The cheese sauce tasted off, not that it went bad but just the flavor is different than what I expected/what I am used to. It was an ok dish and I’m glad I tried this place. The concept is what appealed to me as a vegetarian and I’m happy there are places like this, fully dedicated to the cause.
Given the food, the price, and most importantly, the service, I def wont ever come back to this chain during the rest of my trip and any future trips. I’ve dined at other restaurants during my visit these last couple of days and never once experienced this type of rude/ignoring service, not even when I just did a...
Read moreThe food is brilliant so why the 2 stars? Well the service was TERRIBLE. The host at the door (as mentioned by other people now I've looked at reviews) seemed to take an instant dislike to us but was super nice to other people. He actually ignored us when a table came free and we were next on the list and seated other people behind us who'd accepted a table outside (so they already had a seat and we were still waiting). The only difference I saw between us and them is that we're clearly tourists from England and they were Dutch. It's a shame because the vibe seemed cool and we really wanted to eat there but in the end he did everything he could to get us to order a takeaway. He even told us our takeaway was ready to avoid giving us a table we asked about 3 times. He told us the table wasn't free but it had been free the 45 minutes we stood there waiting. He also told us there were no seats available but then when other people came in he offered them seats at the bar. There were two tables empty and four empty seats at the bar and he was calling people after us and several didn't pick up. We still didn't get a seat.
We ordered the food for takeaway as we didn't see why a bad host should stop us getting food. The food was excellent. I don't think I'd feel comfortable going back with the host still there (is he the manager?) But maybe we'll try a different branch.
The original burger is amazing. The...
Read moreI may only have stayed in Amsterdam for a handful of days, but VJFB is where I ate my favourite meal of the trip! I can't speak for any of the other branches, but the we had a 10/10 experience at the Heinekenplein restaurant. Food, drink, staff, vibe, allergen information: all faultless. I couldn't recommend them more.
As for what we ate, VJFB Cheezy Smash Burger (one of their more modest options, but relative simplicity done to perfection) 10/10 Onion Rings w/ Pinky Garlic Sauce (honestly wasn't blown away by these rings and the sauce wasn't for me) 6/10. I reckon I would have given the smile fries a similar score - fun but a bit overrated perhaps, especially as you can find them in UK supermarkets! French Fries (as a skinny fries connoisseur these were FANTASTIC) 10/10 Mac & Cheeze Betterballen w/VJFB Sauce (I believe I said "I would do terrible things for more of these", and I'm quite proud I restrained myself only to four. The sauce was amazing too.) 10/10 for both Tipsy Unicorn Cocktail (truly one of the nicest cocktails I've ever had, and I only wish I had had the time and stomach capacity for more) 10/10
Thank you SO much...
