VIJFNULVIJF Amsterdam – Urban Asian Kitchen — Restaurant in Amsterdam

I don't usually write reviews but this place is really bad. The interior is lovely and has a cosy atmosphere, but the food is average and the service is shocking! We were seated then not brought any menus. The waitress tried to walk away halfway through both our drinks and food orders, simply because we asked a couple of questions about the food. The food (all small dishes which are supposed to be served all at once so you can enjoy a variety) were brought out separately and we were given the wrong order. The waiter tried to clear my plates when it was obvious that I will still eating. The waitress came to clear our table and spent a few minutes wiping down the table (that we were still sat at drinking) and readied it for the next customers (they weren't busy) making us feel very unwelcome. Finally the bill came and I was charged €3.50 for a drink priced at €2.40 on the menu - when I questioned this I was told that the price was €3.50 because it was different apple juice, but they weren't getting new menus printed until next week. When I tried to argue that I should be paying the price that is advertised, the waiter just shrugged and made me pay the €3.50. I'm pretty certain there's a law against that... We felt unwelcome from start to end. Disappointing as this place is local to me and I'd been excited to try...

The very best Asian restaurant in this ugly part of town. So look no further and go sit in one of the many nice and designy chairs at the windows and enjoy the view on these non-touristy streets. The contrast couldn't be bigger. Especially when you're in the meanwhile enjoying the nice flavours from this great kitchen! The food is from all over Asia, a few dishes are Japanese, others are Vietnamese, some Chinese and all are really delicious. Staff is very very friendly. You can tell the owner makes sure his people have your satisfaction as their priority. So we felt a bit awkward, our second visit, when a waitress insisted on taking away all our unfinished little dishes with sauces and dips: In her opinion the flavours wouldn't match those of our next meals... She almost would not just let us try and taste for ourselves... I like to think it was just her way of making sure our experience would be...
