Ristorante Il Boccone — Restaurant in Arnhem

3 stars for food and service, only two for the place as it is very crowded with too many tables next to each other. The owner probably wants to maximize profit and place too many tables. As a result, the noise of the rest of the guests is high. Or moving around (for example to go to the toilet, you need to be careful not to hit your leg on one table next to the entrance). And now, talking about maximizing the profits: The place is immensely - and with no other explanation, super expensive. they charge 22.5 euros for an antipasto per person - without indicating that it is per person on the menu. Furthermore, the antipasti were served on a small wooded plate. No foccacia or other bread aside. Just two pieces of frittata as small as my finger. When I called in the end the owner, he gave me some weak explanations that they raised the prices to keep up with the quality etc. which is absolutely false. They even charge 5.95 for tap water in an open bottle, not a bottled one. And 3 euros if you get the small bottle (0.25 ml). I repeat the bottle is open, not closed. I am afraid that this place will close in 1-3 years, despite the good taste. People these days take into consideration everything before choosing a place. We talk about the 1/5 of the monthly rent for a dinner for two? And this is not even a Michelin star or Michelin listed place. More people will stop going in the future, I am sure. First review probably 4 years ago: Great Italian food. Edit from 11 may 2024: This has been my favorite Italian restaurant in Arnhem for years, I have been craving the pasta a la vongole for 3 weeks now. Today I had the time to go for lunch, to my surprise they changed the menu (that is ok,), they changed the prices (which I understand because of the inflation), what bothers me is when they change also the portions. I understand as a business you want to maximize profits, but changing an amazing dish to make it that small that I had to order something else after the pasta to feel that I ate well. I don't mind paying what it's worth, but I don't want to go to a restaurant to guess if I'll be still hungry after my meal.

The pasta was awesome as always, but I was craving this pasta for weeks and the size was a joke.

I hope the restaurant see this review and think about it. If not is also ok, I'll find another nice Italian restaurant.

Note: when I mentioned that I was not happy with the size to the waiter they gave me the entree I ordered on the huis (this was not necessary I just wanted a normal size of pasta). So the service is great also the response. But if I want to have a nice plate of pasta, I want a decent...

Edit 8 sterren !!! Snel weer terug want: Echt echt Italiaanse vibes, we voelen ons welkome VIP tourists in onze eigen stad.. Neem de tijd en geniet van de hartelijke mensen, de liefde die je proeft in elke hap en slok. Het heerlijk op z'n Italiaans, beetje moeizaam in communicatie af en toe, met veel gevoel is dít gewoon een bonus.

De kaart is té aantrekkelijk, dit fijne ristorante van binnen ook, de deuren zijn er letterlijk uit, vakantie- sfeerverhogend en wij mogen buiten plaatsnemen. Knus terrasje tegenover kroeg op hoek. De open keuken bruist! Start met een cocktail. Je mag roken op het terras. Wat een gezelligheid om ons heen.

We nemen met z'n tweeën de voorgestelde voorgerechten en likken onze vingers af bij vitello tonato, carpaccio, steak tartare, zalm met burata, zwarte kaas, pecorino en nog veel meer .., hier liggen gerechtjes bereid met passie en eersteklas smaakvolle ingrediënten. Alles smaakt vol, is prachtig afgestemd op elkaar: in verhouding, qua structuur en het ziet er prachtig uit .

We drinken cocktails, snoepen van olijfjes met focaccia, een scheut extra vierge olijfolie en genieten van het Italiaanse weer dat fijn meedoet. Wuiven naar voorbijgangers hoe zalig het is, onze Italiaanse gastheer vermaakt ons met wijn, en als hoofdgerecht de gevulde octopus op Siciliaanse wijze en voor haar varkenspoot : botermals en mogen we een emmertje saus mee voor thuis 😋 grazie De garnituren zijn op beode bordjes dezelfde perfect in eenvoud: zoals het hoort, op z'n Nonna's seizoensgebonden en zonder opsmuk want de smaak + bereiding is wederom perfect..

Eigenlijk zijn we na dit alles volledig voldaan en verzadigd maar we zitten zo zalig en het is zoo genieten wij willen niet naar huis , en ja natuurlijk kiezen we een toetje want we zijn te nieuwsgierig! Canolli , maar we delen. Met espresso Perfecte avond. En dat vond onze gastheer gelukkig ook .
