Thai Restaurant Rung — Restaurant in Arnhem

The boss and I went back to Rung after a few months.

I most say...if you love a characteristic and cozy place....you'll love Rung.

Service is ( as always ) on point. Waitresses are polite, kind and also sharp.

The food...the best part...see pictures!

Very good!

I had a soup: Tom Kha Thalae, the boss had the fish cookies: Tom man Phlaa.

My soup was very - very good! It was a perfect balance of al the spices and vegetables...Perfect!

The fish cookies where very tasty. Just a bit to oily for our taste...but good enough to enjoy.

But then to the main courses....

The boss had the Phlaa raad Phrik ( whole fish in red curry )

And I had the Panaeng Neua ( beef with egg plant en coconut juice in red curry )

My dish was good. Nice and spicy as shown in the menu ( two peppers ) The beef was a bit on the harder side! But overall a very good and balanced dish.

Then I tasted the dish of the boss....and I was again in love with the Thai kitchen!

The fish was butter soft and spiced well balanced. You could taste every spice and vegetables in the dish. The curry was nice and sweat with a bit of spice in it! Perfectly done!!!

We also took deserts.

I had icecream Rung ( different fruit with different ice cream and whipped cream.

The boss had pineapple ( but took it without whipped cream )

Then our coffee and fresh Jasmin tea!

We enjoyed every bite and sip!

Rung has always been one of my favourite Thais restaurants in Arnhem. The atmosphere is cosy and makes you feel like a Thai family invited you at their home!

Staff is polite and service is more then excellent!

The prices are in balance with your dishes. You get more than enough food ( and I can eat a lot!!!)

Rung will see us...

Nice Thai experience with some space for improvement.

Located in the heart of Arnhem, this place is rather easy to find.

Food quality is okay, specially if you have been into south east Asia. Service is kind of a underrated thing around here. There is a Thai Boss, screaming around at their employees - which plays no significance to the unorganized carrousel they call a restaurant. It took them over 1 hour to serve dinner as we noticed that people who got in 30 min after us, were already paying to leave. This means that between ordering and getting your food, it took over 60 minutes. Some may call it acceptable, I don’t really indulge myself into something like this ever again specially when you book in advance.

Food is overpriced for the portion size and due to the slow service I didn’t find it feasible to give any tip !

At the end and for our disappointment, they had no Roti nor banana roti 🫓 for desert. Instead an overstretched and overpriced desert card with ice cream.

Everyone that searches for Thai food knows that Roti is one - if not one of best and famous, deserts around Thailand.

Disappointed, not unhappy but definitely not coming back...

Vandaag, tweede pinksterdag, maandag 5 juni 2017, eten gehaald bij Rung omdat een andere goede afhaal Thai in Arnhem dicht was. Tijdens het wachten op mijn afhaalmenu kon ik het personeel in de bediening een beetje observeren. Wat mij opviel was dat de twee vrouwen in de bediening erg hard werkten en continue bezig waren de klanten te behagen. Echter voor de man die achter de bar stond (baas?) was het niet goed genoeg. Hij was constant aan het vitten op de dames en zei dat ze harder moesten werken. Voor mij als wachtende klant was het erg onaangenaam hiermee geconfronteerd te worden, mede omdat de aantijgingen van de man jegens de dames in mijn ogen zeker niet terecht waren! HIJ stond daar een beetje achter de bar drankjes in te schenken terwijl de dames zich een slag in de rondte liepen: bestellingen opnemen, klanten ontvangen, eten/drinken rondbrengen, tafels afhalen, bonnen schrijven, etc. Zij deden écht hun best en waren goed bezig. Ik weet niet of het te maken heeft met de normen en waarden binnen deThaise cultuur en/of verhoudingen tussen man/vrouw, maar voor mij als klant in Arnhem was het géén prettige ervaring! Ik had écht te doen met de vrouwen in de bediening en was van plan hem erop te gaan aanspreken. Op dat moment werd mijn afhaalmenu gebracht door een van de vrouwen. Ik vroeg haar of ze het een beetje volhield met zo'n vervelende commanderende mannelijke collega (baas?). Zij antwoordde dat het niet uitmaakte, zij moesten alleen harder werken, dat was alles.. Het was niet erg... Nou sorry mijnheer achter de bar, IK vond het wel erg! Meer waardering voor de vrouwen in de bediening zou zeker op zijn plaats zijn! Als zij niet hard genoeg zouden werken, zou de recensie zeker geen 4,5 ster zijn!! Thumbs UP for the ladies, thumbs DOWN for the man! Ik moet er wel bij zeggen dat het eten voortreffelijk is!! Het eten krijgt dus 5 sterren, de vrouwen in de bediening 5 sterren, de man in de bediening 1 ster! Great food, but (bar)MAN,...
