De Colonie Breda — Restaurant in Breda

When we go out to eat, we give ourselves the luxury of an experience and entrust ourselves to the care of "professionals" who are trained, not to serve, but to give us a moment of attention and hospitality, give to the custumer a moment. The location of this restaurant is excellent, the food is normal, it would not be a gastronomic experience, the beer is cold, but the manager's service was a disgrace, who should be the example for a team was nothing more than an uncomfortable and ridiculous presence. I'm a customer of this restaurant and I always take friends to Breda and specifically to this restaurant. On the day of the Breda Jazz, I had the displeasure of having my friend ridiculed by the manager in front of my daughter, simply because of a sip of water. That day we went for lunch as usual and my friend ordered tap water and I dont know if in that day,you couldn't order "tap water" without a drink (I'm not the one who's going to teach them business). As a result, I ordered beer and water, my daughter ordered fanta and water and my friend was just going to eat and have a drink later. We made a toast and my friend took a sip of my daughter's water, the "manager" immediately came over to use his energy to argue, then he said to my friend with my 10-year-old daughter on her side "this is not a place of CHARITY to be giving you water". I finished my drink, waited for my daughter to finish her Fanta, I paid the bill and left a 10% tip and had to explain to my daughter how respect and hospitality should work. I would love to listen from the REAL MANAGER, I think is better to hear...

The biggest point for this restaurant is for its location. It is in the heart of the center, right behind (in front of?) the main cathedral of Breda. Also, the style looks very unique, with a lot of accessoires. Quite a spacious place, therefore it was a lot of groups of people there (8-9 in a row). Booking a table must be done in advance for sure. Be prepared for extremely noisy time. What can be improved: there are tables at veranda part where you do feel constantly opened door, be prepared. There are no blankets which might be beneficial. Food was average and perhaps precooked in advance. I did not enjoy it, unfortunately. I did finish only starters and dessert (crème brulé). The dessert was big and delicious (hope this particular dessert must be hardly bad made ever). Service could be also more inthousiastic, it was okay. Overall did not get so big popularity of...

We stopped for a late lunch and had an excellent time! For a terrace this was especially great.

We ordered the Mexican burger and were super happy with the meal. The burger meat tasted like it was fresh from the butcher and the guacamole was homemade, none of that jar stuff you normally get. Our neighbors ordered a club sandwich and salmon sandwich and they were huge portions! They also confirmed they were also really tasty.

The interior was also nice, so whether your sitting on the terrace, in the sun room, or inside it’s a great spot. Definitely deserves more stars then it has.
