When all your customers are outside and the whole place inside is empty, don't make a big scene that me and my wife must stay at a tiny 2 ppl table inside instead of a 4 ppl table we asked for. Really illogical, disrespectful to clients and puts off first time customers immediately.
If your place was full, then it would have made sense. Otherwise it's a big no no. Sorry.
Edit: to answer the owner:
You tell a nice story, and the "let's do this" part is telling ages about you.
We entered an empty place with no reservation. We asked your staff if it's ok to sit there. They said no, we're 2 and should sit at the small table. I said "really? there's nobody inside" and the reply was that it's the policy to sit at the small table if we're two people. Only when we turned around to leave your staff said "wait, let me ask my boss".
Now: If your staff needs to ask you for basic decency, you have a management problem Your customer care skills are obvious from your "let's do this" reply I will not wait for the favour to sit at a decent table in an emptynplace with no reservation. The idea of having an easy dinner is already over and we had no more pleasure to stay there anymore. "Sorry, we have a wedding here later" is basic human comm skill to open to a client. Didn't happen. It was "policy"
You have plenty of clients, I'm sure you'll do fine. And yes, I did leave only 1 star reviews to places that really had major basic customer care issues. If you love that honor, it's yours.
Edit 2: dude! I read the other 1 star reviews you had. We're not the only ones squeezed at a table when the place is empty. And the others are amazing in showing your customer care skills. I'm so happy we...
Read moreFirst time having dinner at this place since their renovation.
My pizza was really great - perhaps the most authentic you can get anywhere in Delft at the moment.
Their renovation did wonders for the atmosphere. The new dining area is modern with long rows of tables, and it's set up as one big open space, with a clear view on the kitchen. I can appreciate them not having lots of stuff on the tables, which are also large enough to accommodate the big plates the pizza come in.
Having a big open space also has some downsides though. It did get quite warm as the night progressed, likely because the pizza oven is just a few meters away from the tables. Also (this can vary night to night) it was quite noisy the night we were in - a Sunday.
The service was actually great - we never had to wait for very long to order, and they were very attentive to us, even with the place being as full as it was. However, when we checked the bill when we got home (we should have done this before we paid of course, our mistake) we noticed that we had two items on our bill that we haven't ordered, haven't gotten, but we ended up paying for. That is quite sloppy from the staff, as well as for us for not checking the bill. Anyway, lesson learned.
Edit: Shortly after writing this review I got a call from San Marco with an apology for the mistake and an offer to compensate for it during my next visit! Honest mistakes happen all the time and this one was corrected quickly. Looking forward to the next great pizza at...
Read moreOh my giddy aunt! This was the most delicious ending to a beautiful day in Delft! Two new owners since August 2021 have renovated the restaurant, so please disregard any grumpy reviews before that date.
Four foot-weary yet happy travelers from UK, France, and Texas USA didn’t know to make a reservation, but at 7 pm Nick, the owner got us in to the last table! He also gave us his attention to share in English the specials of the night.
We each ordered very different things, an asparagus and cream starter, prawns in tomato sauce, burrata ensalata with basalmic. We were immediately groaning with happy tastebuds.
Then came the main dishes, handmade imported Naples pasta tortelloni (very large tortellini) filled with ground veal, From the wood-fired oven…pizza “Salmone” that had creamy burrata, smoked salmon & arugula. Also white pizza “Guanciale” with whipped cheese, sweet red pepper, basil & pork cheek bacon. We were stuffed, had some to take home, and couldn’t eat another bite! Then they delivered the dessert menu….
…decided to cleanse our palate with lemon ice cream FILLED with limoncello, with each of us just having a few bites. Thought we were DEFINITELY finished, but Nick suggested one last taste of melon liqueur from Naples……ahhhh …. EVERYTHING absolutely SUPERB, SPLENDID, SUBLIME!!
NOW we are feeling a little like ducks as we WADDLE happily back to our car park. Thank you for the memories we will...
