Kohinoor van India — Restaurant in Groningen

The food was nothing special, tasty but just general Indian food which you wouldn't expect for the price. The complementary dish we got after sitting down was pretty nice and not spicy although, one of the dips looks spicy. The waiter was not very suited for his job though, he spoke very soft and silent and it was hard to understand him. I asked for non spicy food as I really can't handle it and they did make it non spicy which was nice. The meat platter on the right side had a lot of different types of meat, some were a bit charred but nothing inedible. this foor is not amazing but sometimes it shines - their dhal is great and some tandooris are good. veggie curry could do some work. BUT so far best from all the indian food in groningen. my partner is indian and he agrees. i spend almost 2 years in india and l was taught how to cook by my in laws. kohinoor comes closest to the proper indian taste. their portions are massive and food arrives warm and with a smile. we were so dissapointed with other indian restaurants (e.g. kleine moghul was pretty tasteless) so this one offered the comfort we needed. we will definitely continue ordering from them. We had a horrible experience here. There was so much smoke, my kids started to cough and my daughter's eyes got all red. They tried to turn on a tiny little fan, which did nothing. We had to leave after 5 minutes (close to evacuate actually). They still wanted to charge us even! Which I refused. Once home we had to wash all our clothes, the curry, spices and garlic scent was already deep in there. I don't understand how this place would even have a license. It was empty and easy to see why.
