Olive Tree Greek Cuisine — Restaurant in Groningen

We visited thee Olijfboom many times, but I finally manage to write a review. This super small restaurant has one of the best atmospheres in Groningen, just great either for a dinner among old friends or with a cute date with a significant one. Food is really nice, and absolutely abundant; their "tapas" system is really smart, and it allows you to try multiple things - and share them with the rest of the table. Moreover, people that work there are among the friendliest ones that I've ever met, and they will provide you with all the information (or suggestions) that you might need. The only (tiny) remark is that the menu is relatively limited: after few times, it's very likely that you'll have tasted everything that it has to offer (except, of course, for those dishes that change periodically). Absolutely lovely experience. As a balkan (coming with a greek person ) I felt welcomed and at ease with the staff. Most of them, if not all spoke greek so that was an advantage for the whole place.

We ordered the trio mezze, squid, spinach pie, lamb meal, the meatball dish and mousaka. Each and every dish was absolutely breathtaking, and extremely similar to what is usually served in Greece. The lamb was really thoroughly cooked and savory, I loved it. At the end, after getting both appetizers and main dishes, we got served ouzo on the house, which was incredibly kind of them. As a spanish, I can confidently say this is my favorite restaurant in Groningen, and probably in the world. I make sure to visit every time I'm in the Netherlands, which is about four times a year. Even though it's not that often, it always feels like home.

The staff are incredibly warm and welcoming. Cristina and Isabella, in particular, always recognize me and make the experience feel very personal, it's that kind of genuine hospitality that keeps me coming back.
