BetterBagels Bakery — Restaurant in Leiden

Piccolo locale in zona centrale, a pochi passi da Haarlemmerstraat (la via dello shopping di Leiden). La prima volta ho faticato a trovare il locale perché ha una sola vetrina ed é molto piccolo. Ci sono in tutto 7 piccoli tavolini, nelle ore di punta tra le 12:30 e le 13:30 non é facile trovare posto e si sta comunque piuttosto stretti. Tuttavia i bagels di Frank di Better Bagels sono una garanzia e molto buoni. Inoltre, per chi é celiaco come me, é possibile gustare degli ottimi bagels anche in versione senza glutine (mi raccomando di specificare che volete il pane senza glutine "glutenvrij bagels" al momento di ordinare e poi verificate che il panino che vi viene consegnato al tavolo abbia la bandierina con scritta gluten free / glutenvrij); in caso contrario meglio chiedere spiegazioni alla cassa. Tranne quando c'é pochissima gente, le ragazze dietro al bancone non vengono ai tavoli a prendere le ordinazioni, si sceglie sul menú (esiste anche una versione in lingua inglese) e poi si ordina alla cassa. Nel locale é disponibile anche un tipo di torta semplice senza glutine. E' bello veder preparare i bagels sotto i propri occhi e seguire tutte le varie fasi di preparazione. I bagels senza glutine vengono preparati in una stanza separata per evitare contaminazioni. A volte sono disponibili diverse tipologie di pane senza glutine (normale, con i semi, con il jalapeno .... ecc.). E' anche possibile acquistare i bagels e portarli via. E' un posto simpatico per una breve pausa pranzo o una sosta :-)

Small bakery/lunchroom in central area, just few steps from Haarlemmerstraat (the main Leiden shopping street). The first time it was difficult to find this place because it has only one showcase and is very small. There are 7 small tables at all, from 12:30 am to 1:30 pm, it is not easy to find a place and is still quite tight. However, Frank's bagels are a very good guarantee. Also, for those who are celiac like me, you can enjoy great bagels in a gluten-free version (important: specify that you want "glutenvrij" gluten free bagels when ordering and then check that there's a small flag labelled "gluten free "on the sandwich delivered to you); otherwise, ask for explanations at the staff. Except when there are very few people, the girls behind the counter will not come to the tables to pick up the orders, you choose from the menu (there is also an English version) and then order to the counter. A gluten-free type of cake is also available in the lunchroom. It's great to see bagels prepared under your eyes and follow all the different stages of preparation. The gluten-free bagels are prepared in a separate room to avoid contamination. Sometimes different types of gluten-free bread are available (normal, with seeds, with jalapeno ... etc.). It is also possible to buy the bagels and take them away. It's a nice place for a short lunch...

The best bagels in town. This was 3 years ago, before the pandemic. Time for an update. This statement still stands firm. It is always great to be able to enjoy an honest and delicious bagel. Fantastic gluten free bagels and bagel sandwiches! Wow was so impressed by the service and taste here. They have something yummy for any diet.. vegan, vegetarian, gf, meat eaters… they have it all and super reasonable prices! Now I wish I lived in Leiden so I could come here all the time.
