CINQ — Restaurant in Maastricht

We ate at Cinque last night. We had booked but were early. The very efficient and helpful waitress gave us a little round table across from the terrace to wait for our table to become free. We enjoyed a lovely glass of Cava. What a fabulous view. The sun was slowly setting but still very warm. Then we were told our table was ready. We ordered the Lamb Shank and the Aged Beef, accompanied with a glass of Provence Rose and a local beer with sparkling water on the side. Both main courses were absolutely delicious. We then shared a lemon meringue pie. The entire experience was just wonderful. The setting is just perfect, sitting alongside the River Mass looking across to the iconic skyline of historic Maastricht. The food was of a very high standard. The service from the staff was faultless. Quick, efficient, helpful, no fuss and easy. It was a busy evening and Cinque was in demand, but the staff were extremely good at maintaining a calm and ordered service. As a visitor to Maastricht, who has had the joy of experiencing this city for the past 7 years, I can say that Cinque never disappoints, it is always a pleasure. I have dined here for lunch and dinner at least 10 times over the years. I am very much looking forward to welcoming my family from the UK to dine here in the next few months. I can nobody recommend this restaurant: Yesterday, I wanted to have dinner with my girlfriend. First, all the waiters and waitresses walked around us for 10 min., nobody came by and asked if we want to order, unless I stopped one of them. Then I ordered a cheeseburger and my girlfriend the pasta. The cheeseburger was on the main dishes menu and NOT on the lunch menu, but the waiter told me that the burger is nevertheless just served for lunch. OK, since I did not want to argue I ordered the pasta, too. Now, the unbelievable happened, two minutes later a table next to us was served with two cheeseburgers. I asked the waiter how this could be and he told us that the table ordered it two hours before during lunch time - sure I always order my food two hours in advance. I ordered the carpaccio sandwich. I made it clear that I wanted tomatoes on it. I was served a club chicken club sandwich which was small and didn't look like it was worth 18 euros. I told the waiter that I would like to speak with the waitress. He said ok. He came back and asked if something was wrong and I said yes. He asked what he could do and I told him he could tell the waitress I wanted to talk to her. This simple request seemed like a confrontation. The waitress said oops I ordered the club sandwich and she put in an order for the carpaccio sandwich which came without tomato. I had to ask for salt and pepper. I had to ask for a sharp knife since a butter knife did not cut through the open faced (one piece of bread) sandwich. Half of the carpaccio was red and half was brown. Though it tasted good.
