Ellinikon — Restaurant in Maastricht

Very rude waiters, very expensive, and not very authentic Greek food. We were 14 people, the grilled meat was plain and flavorless! The sea food & appetizer plates lacked flavor and spices & were very oily! Way too expensive for what we got, very small portions. And overall the waiters were not very welcoming and quite rude! We asked if we can sit outside since there were empty tables outside, and it was very hot inside, and the Dutch blond waiter with long hair said it’s not possible and if we don’t like it we can go to somewhere else! But later I complained to his colleague (a Greek guy) who fixed a table for us outside. But overall all the waiters seemed off, not smiling to customers and not very friendly. With the good reviews we were ready to have a good evening here but unfortunately that did not happen - food was alright and the ambiente is nice, but staff and service are one of the worst of the many restaurants we have been to. We literally had to ask for everything ourselves (can we have the menu please, may we order please, may we have extra tzaziki...) This needs more of a service approach to customers and more appreciation. Also on a not too busy evening we waited more than one hour for the main course with no apologize or whatsoever by the staff. Exceptional in every way. Welcoming host and staff. Extensive menu. Generous portions. Really great Greek Wine and Oozo. There is nothing negative I can say, it was all really delicious and authentic. We called last minute and the sweet owner was able to fit us in if we came early. So glad we made it happen.

I love that they share their story on the website, it enhanced our experience. I would take the 3 hour train ride again just to eat here, but plan ahead next time!
