Harvey Kitchen & Bar — Restaurant in Maastricht

Living just around the corner from this establishment, I had visited it several times both alone and with visitors. In the past few weeks, I had brought two sets of visitors from Ireland here, on two separate occasions where we spent plenty on food and drinks. This evening I popped in to grab some food. The restaurant is quite pricey to begin with, but I thought it would be handy. I ordered a bagel for €9.50 and was immediately told they'd need the table by 5.30pm (I said it would be no problem as it was only 4pm). I asked for water and was brought bottled. I said tapwater would be fine. I was informed by another waiter that he would only provide tapwater alongside beer or coffee. On this occasion, I was not ordered alcoholic drinks as it was a passing visit and I just wanted a quick bite to eat. I was shocked and pointed out I'd ordered food. He said this was typical in the Netherlands, and I explained to him I had worked as a waitress myself in the Netherlands and any of the restaurants never had a problem providing clients with tapwater alongside their food. I decided to cancel my order and leave, and he told me I would have the same problem everywhere. This is completely untrue as I went elsewhere where I got better value for money, better service AND tapwater. The treatment I received was very poor here and I will not be back. It was a very disappointing experience, considering I had frequented the place on a number of occasions and live so close-by.

Furthermore, after I made the post above on tripadvisor, the owner decided to prove my point about how obnoxious and arrogant he is (see tripadvisor for his full comment to me). He referred to me as "princess"' which is highly demeaning and sexist, and a totally unprofessional way to conduct business. I do not see this business being a success in the long-run given the nasty attitude...

Left without eating. We ordered a couple of burgers and an onion ring side. After digging in we discovered a very raw burger patty. Not rare and pink, but raw and cold. We called the waitress. She couldn't do anything and went to tell someone else. Eventually the other lady working the bar came over and told us they could reheat it in the oven, but because it's been 10 minutes, they can't help it that it's cold. She told us there was no way that they'll make us a new one. We got offered a drink on the house. After explaining a few times to her that's cold because it's not cooked and her insisting they can just reheat it in the oven. In the end I just gave the whole burger back to her and told her to take it off the bill. But we are honest people so my husband ate his burger around the raw parts (which was completely cold by then) and we...

I have been here 2 times within almost 2 weeks.The first time, I found very good staff, there was a young female cook in the kitchen and I ate very well. It was food cooked with passion, attention and elegance. What I ate was 5 stars, I appreciated it, as was the kindness of the staff. I was fine and relaxed and I ate really well.

I returned yesterday after almost 2 weeks and my judgment has changed dramatically. I would suggest not to leave the stove to those who work without passion and without the desire to do well. The service was also not the best. I felt uncomfortable...
