The wagyu was absolutely delicious, and the restaurant had a nice atmosphere. For the FOOD, We really enjoyed it and appreciate the effort put into the quality of the dishes. As I was born in Japan and grew up mostly there.
However, I noticed a few things that could be improved. Me and my partner, We arrived on time for our reservation, but upon entering, the staff at the front desk appeared to be chatting with the kitchen staff and eating some sushi or other food. (Probably their staff foods, etc whatever) This eating food between the workers was OBVIOUSLY visible when we entered. LoL. Come on guys! Staffs could pay more attention to the customer approaching through the clear windows at the entrance, which didn’t give a professional first impression for us. Anyway, When the staff finally noticed us, they still had food in their mouth and even spoke to us while chewing. While I found this a bit humorous, it felt out of place for a restaurant that serves premium wagyu, a symbol of luxury and Japanese excellence.
Additionally, one of the staff members, who seemed to be the manager or a person in charge, came across as cold and unfriendly during the meal. While it didn’t ruin our dinner, it did slightly affect the joyful experience we were hoping to have anniversary celebrations while visiting your restaurant.
I believe that paying more attention to professionalism, especially at the entrance and in staff demeanor, could significantly elevate the experience and match the high quality of the foods, guys! You said Japanese restaurant, so I was expecting some of the experience too.
Anyway, Thank you again for the wonderful meal, and not sure to visit again in the future to this branch but maybe to other branch for under even better...
Read moreExpensive experiences are alright if the taste compesates for the price. This restaurant was not even close to that tasting experience and left a sour taste. You pay a very expensive price per person just to be able to enjoy a measly portion of "premium" meat and sushi.... For the same price you could get 100x better food 50 meters away (Amarone).
AH-UN is comparable with KBBQ restaurants or Oniku in Rotterdam, but their catch is their premium food?
I really hope it was (it wasn't). The sushi was ok. Ok is not good enough if you ask 20 euro for a roll or 4.50 for one nigiri......
Then we go to the meat. I have tasted a lot of wagyu in Japan and also here in The Netherlands. I don't expect it to be as good as. I also don't expect it to be like Yamazato in Amsterdam. But even giving the meat a small touch with the fire, the meat was chewy. I was very surprised. So that gives one of two reasons: Either I overcooked it or the meat wasn't good enough. The last one tends to be buying a cheaper version or just straight up lying. I don't think they lied, would be very bad if they lied about their whole key selling point.
So let me say this, imagine paying 60 euro for the lowest quality wagyu cut in very very small pieces and getting just a mini portion of it. Then you have to cook it yourself to the perfect medium rare. Whereas you can pay that 60-70 euro for a fine dining restaurant to cook it for you and give you a bigger portion of wagyu.
Overall full out disappointment and a huge skip.Don't bother and eat your moneys worth. If you like this concept and you don't need the wagyu, there are enough better options in Rotterdam to...
Read moreI think for the price and quality you get is quite okay okay it might not be a whole lot of meat if you order a set (we had 4x times the Wagyu set) but I think it was the right balance.
with each set you get a bowl of rice, salad, soup which for a normal person is quite okay. if you're a big eater this definitely isn't enough (which is why we ordered some more meat)
A tip is definitely the Butter Wagyu hotstone rice...the portion is huge and you can easily share it with 3 or 4 people :-) the rice had a really nice "Wok Hey" (Wok breath) and it tasted a bit peppery as well which had a real distinct flavour...you'll be craving for more!
Tip 1: maybe give some more veggies with the sets? the sets are quite pricy 40-50 euro but 1 mushroom en 2 asparagus seems a bit too little...maybe add some other veggies (veggies are cheap anyways)
Tip 2: Staff seems to be a bit all over the place...I had to walk twice to a staff member to get my drinks ordered (otherwise they didn't see me). Maybe try to look more at the tables? I just couldn't get the attention of a waiter/waitress...maybe because we were a bit in a corner spot...
p.s. your pin machine is still configured as Fish Market...might want to change that to Ah-Un as I can imagine you don't want to have any connections with Fish market anymore?
All in all i would come back to this place to eat Wagyu again...it might not be the best bang for your buck but the quality and ambience of this restaurant is really nice which...
