Bam! Brunch & Lunch — Restaurant in Rotterdam

Not sure if it was a bad time of day or just the way it usually is. Walked in to the restaurant looking for a table. Stood there waiting until I caught someone to ask whether I could sit anywhere. Tables were a bit dirty with crumbs on them. Some of the cushions had food and grease stains. Placed our order within 5 mins which was good. Switched to a more comfortable table and waited. Got the coffee about 5-10 minutes later and then spent almost an hour waiting for the food. We ordered a breakfast plate and a chicken pita. My partner started getting anxious waiting for the food. The wait seemed endless until they finally served us. The food arrived a bit cold and it tasted quite bland. The French Toast was good but the avocado toast lacked flavour. The poached egg that was part of the breakfast was overcooked. The yoghurt jar was good. Presentation was really nice but the taste didn't match up. What could they do better? Improve on their service - they seemed to have three waiters for the whole restaurant - which seemed extremely challenging. They need a slightly bigger team to serve all the customers - especially when it's busy. The food needs more flavour and the tables could be cleaned better. my girlfriend and I visited BAM! as the first breakfast location for our rotterdam vacation. We couldn't have chosen better!

My girlfriend usually prefers a more salty breakfast, while I really enjoy a sweet and savoury brunch. This place had both! They even had a breakfast dish, called "I cannot decide" (translated to english) which included an avocado toast, a french toast with several fruits and a yoghurt.

My girlfriend chose that dish, while I got a peanut butter banana french toast. Both her french toast and avocado toast were super tasty, even though she would've prefered the avocado toast without the rucola. My french toast was super! Exactly what I searched for. A hefty brunch with loads of peanut butter. A classic american breakfast, I'd say!

We both had warm drinks, a hot chocolate and a capuccino, both came with a little piece of chocolate that melted perfectly in the drinks.

Super tasty food and drinks overall!

The service was fast and friendly and matched the overall cute atmosphere...

So disappointed with this experience.

I ordered the fresh tuna toast. It sounded nice and importantly it did not contain ‘sla’ like many other items on the menu, as I’m allergic to rocket.

About 40 minutes later my dish arrived, loaded with rocket. I told one server about my allergy and she took it back to the kitchen. She was really nice about it.

The shift manager approached our table and said that there is always rocket in the salad. I told her that salad was not listed on the tuna toast, otherwise I would not have ordered it. The dish is nicer with salad, she said, we can’t list every ingredient on the menu.

They made my dish again, which arrived as my partner was finishing his meal. It tasted fine, but not worth the insensitive, almost cruel, attitude of the shift manager who did not apologise or offer any kind of solution or discount. I almost apologised for having the allergy(!)

Obviously won’t be returning. Chidoz next door is much better anyway - they make a delicious...
