1NUL8 Meent — Restaurant in Rotterdam

Dear Management,

I am writing to convey just how deeply hurt my friends and I were by the treatment we received at Cafe 108 today. I visited with two expat friends, and we were denied entry due to our attire—sneakers and caps. What was especially distressing is that we saw other patrons dressed similarly being allowed in, and on previous Sundays, my friends and I had entered Cafe 108 in the exact same outfits without any issue.

The inconsistency in how your policy was enforced left us feeling unwanted, disrespected, and, frankly, discriminated against. We were flabbergasted and deeply hurt by this experience.

There was absolutely no reason—none whatsoever—to prevent us from enjoying lunch at your establishment, yet we were singled out and made to feel like we didn’t belong.

As someone showing expat friends around the city, I wanted them to experience the best of what Rotterdam has to offer. Instead, we left feeling marginalized and unwelcome.

If there is an issue with certain guests based on race or background, it would be better for your establishment to be honest about that, rather than hiding behind inconsistent enforcement of policies. The pain and hurt we felt today cannot be undone, and as a result, we will never return to 1nul8. Hurting and rejecting people based on their looks and skin color is discrimination, especially when we saw other (Caucasian) guests being allowed to enter without issue.

Furthermore, during past weekend visits, I have personally witnessed females dressed almost naked, which contradicts any notion of enforcing a so-called “dress code.” So please, do not act like you are running a distinguished cafe when such attire is regularly accepted.

Please, this is a pathetic response just to pretend you care about your customers, well you don’t. You made a clear distinction between the customers and as we say Dutch ‘met twee maten meten’ has been obviously clear! And looking to the other reviews that are quite similar and where people felt discriminated as well is not a coincidence or house rules. trash and racist. for a place that serves sushi? what?! we (a group of 6 asian men) wanted to come dine at this place as it came recommended by a friend in rotterdam). when we arrived, they told us they had a no sling bag policy. we asked if we could just put it away and hostess said sure. we sat for 15 minutes and tried to get the waiters’ attention but to no avail. soon enough, the waitress told us that we cannot serve us as we brought sling bags with us. we hid them under the table and no one could see so i don’t understand what the problem was. i then took a walk around the compound and saw many others with sling bags on their booths beside them. i confronted the waitress and she said “you were sent the rules”. huh? the rules said no sling bags only on a friday, saturday, or sunday. we went on wednesday. also, then why seat us in the first place and made us waste our time? what a stupid rule any way. what does a sling bag that holds my passport and my wallet have anything to do with my ability...

Got there at 10.15 pm. Waited first 15 min to order as no one felt responsible for me and I feel the Staff was busy talking among themselves. By then the kitchen had closed (10.30 pm) and therefore could not provide me with anything to eat (bar snacks or chips would have been totally fine with me, as I know I was late) - this is "great" when you are on a business trip an really hungry, arriving too late at your destination for a proper dinner.

Well I decided, that it is what it is and ordered a Cocktail to have at least something nice at the end of they day. Bad idea - they again forgot me and the drink (seems they were busy shutting everything down), which they just realized after I had to pull a waiter towards my table asking if he could check.
