We went there last Saturday, but the vegan selection is rather disappointing. Falafel, beet burger, and pancakes all contain egg, although they are all easy to veganize. Most other dishes either contain haloumi or more cheese or again eggs. What's left is avocado toast, hummus toast, and a lentil soup with coconut milk, The latter was admittedly tasty - even though it's really unfortunate if you have to pay €1 extra for bread! -, but for toast with avocado or hummus I won't leave my own kitchen. We also had a quinoa bowl and ordered it minus the poached egg, but it was mostly lots of oil and little taste: A cup of quinoa on a few leaves of spinach with 3 slices fried mushrooms and 3 cherry tomatoes (see photo). Having to pay €8 for this is really disappointing. And having to pay extra for soy milk instead of animal milk is also not very vegan-friendly. When I asked the server why there's egg in the falafel, she said that they would otherwise fall apart. That's strange, because when I make falafel at home, I never put egg in and they don't fall apart. As far as I know the whole middle-eastern also world makes excellent falafel without egg. Maybe google some vegan falafel recipes? The space itself is nice, and it's just a 5-minute bike ride from home, but for me that's not a reason to go there more often if the menu won't become more vegan-friendly. Whatever happened to tofu, tempeh, seitan, or other vegan protein sources? Does it always have to be...
Read moreStopped by for brunch on a Saturday morning. We had a reservation for 2 people at 11 o’clock. It was not very busy.
My friend and I both ordered a sandwich and a slice of cheesecake.
My friend ordered the sandwich w/ salmon. It was served w/ avocado, cream cheese & salad.
I ordered the “jerk chicken”. It was served w/ naan & papadum. The papadum was tasty. The naan was not. It was also served w/ fried plantains. They were delish.
The food looked pretty. (Very Instagrammable.) But, some of the dishes lacked flavour. My friend said her sandwich was bland. They had not used any herbs and spices. The “jerk chicken” itself was flavourful, but the naan was hard and dry.
The cheesecake was fine. The filling tasted very much like cream cheese. They did not use a lot of sugar and vanilla. (We both prefer a richer flavour.) They used oatmeal biscuits for the base, instead of Graham Crackers or Bastognekoeken. So, the base was very soft and chewy (and, tasted almost healthy) instead of sweet...
Read moreThe hot chocolate and the breakfast platter were pretty good, however I tried the pancakes and they were very disappointing... While the pancakes are sweet and amazing, the toppings were hardly okay, I asked for banana and got more or less half a banana (not enough), also asked for whipped cream and got a small table spoon of it, which is not even close to enough for 5 pancakes, besides the texture of the whipped cream was very clumpy and frozen, didnt even taste sweet and was slightly worried to get sick from eating it since it didnt feel like any whipped cream I ever had. The space is pretty and quiet, tho the mirrors on the bathroom are only usable if you're over 1.80cm, I wanted to fix my makeup but with being 1.65 the mirrors were absurdly high to see myself. The waiters are pretty nice and polite, but the pancakes ruined the overall experience, and the food took very long to be served such disappointment. (Photos of the menu attached cause it seemed pretty hard to...
