El Niño Beach Club — Restaurant in The Hague

If you're coming for the atmosphere and the beautiful beach, then you're in good stead with any of these bars. If you're coming for the food, probably consider elsewhere. Dutch people would probably give this 4 stars (in my humble opinion, that is). Finding good food in the Netherlands is extremely difficult, the standard is simply not that high - and I am not fussy or someone who is snooty! I'm just genuinely always surprised at the drop in even the humblest of food standards.

I had a black Angus steak that was pretty chewy. It was small, which means it should at least be as tender as any black Angus could be, but this simply was not the case. The accompanying fries were average, portion size so small that I'm still hungry, and the pepper sauce had possibly one pepper corn and was mostly a cream sauce.

The Mrs. Didn't fare much better. She had the "sliptongetjes" which is a local fish. We thought local meant probably better, but there were more bones than an ancient Indian burial ground. Should this fish be deboned? No, that's how it comes and we knew that. But when it comes so complete that a skilled vet could bring it back to life, there are definite issues - especially when it's over cooked and clings to the bones.

Beach - 5/5 stars. Food - 1.5/5 stars.

Sorry El Niño... You need to up your game. If this restaurant was not on the beach, it would have closed for...

‼️ The worst service I have ever had at a beach club/restaurant Scheveningen. It’s not busy at all but still they managed to forget our nachos. After 45 minutes of waiting for the nachos to arrive we asked what happened to our nachos. The lady checked and said sorry something went wrong but you’ll get them in 2 minutes. And we did…..

While waiting for 45 minutes after ordering, no waiter/waitress came up to us to ask if everything’s alright. I have been to other spots at Scheveningen and usually you got people coming to your table to ask if everything’s alright or if you want to order more every 10-15 min. No one came up to us in those 45 minutes and it was difficult to get someone’s attention.. at our last try we decided to try get someone’s attention or walk up to the bar and cancel the nachos..

🧊Our ice cubes in our drinks melted by the time we received our nachos (see pics). The nachos are good but the service really ruined the experience.

So this is a Mexican (ish) place. We ordered a burger, a salad and 2 glasses of wine (total was over 50 euro.

The salad was good (it takes a lot to get a salad wrong). The burger on the other hand was a different story.

the el nino burger: The meat was dry, the bun was also dry and a bit chewy. The curly fries were good but seem like they were out of a freezer bag and fried. Overall cost for the burger was 17 euro. For the quality of the burger this was very expensive (yes it's a tourist destination) but they are competing with other burger shops around and the only additional value add was the jalapeño mayo. Don't buy this, get a McDonald's or burger king which are close.

The service: Was very light touch, they didn't come back for quite some time to ask if we wanted more drinks, in comparison to the neighbouring restaurant (ocean) where the staff seemed more attentive. Don't get me wrong the girls were polite when they were there.
