We made a reservation for four with a request for a view of the beach for my daughter’s 18th birthday. We received multiple confirmation emails.
My wife and I show up 30 minutes early to check the table and prep it. The staff had no clue about our reservation. They scrambled for two minutes before finding us an inside table meant for two with a view of the beach. The nice waitress had to add two sets of glasses and silverware to the table. The table was very tight for four people ordering drinks, appetizers, and food.
We ordered appetizers and purposely did not order dinner immediately. About 15 minutes after ordering the appetizers, we ordered dinner. The appetizers never came to the table. When we asked for additional bread for the mussels during the ordering process, the waitress made it clear she would have to “order” it for us (found out later that it was a 7.95 charge). The bread made it to our table immediately, but the waitress had the bread taken back because we were supposed to get our appetizers first. We got that same basket of bread 30 minutes later with our dinner - bread was hard, not fresh and soft.
The food was good and plentiful; a bit overpriced, but we understood we were paying for the location (tourists and the beach).
We ordered a brownie so that we could place a candle on it for our daughter to blow out the candle. Don’t order the brownie.
So, we tried to reserve a table with the notification we were celebrating our daughter’s 18th birthday. They messed it up.
They knew it was my daughter’s birthday based on the gifts, the celebration, and my wife’s preparation (birthday napkins and showing up early). The restaurant not only messed up multiple times during the service, they did absolutely nothing for the birthday.
FYI: I mentioned the birthday part to inform you not to expect any support. I was not looking for a “discount” or “freebie.”
Thank you to our waitress. You were very nice and tried to make it nice for us - the reason for the large tip. (even though you took advantage of us asking for more than two pieces of bread for the mussels by charging us almost 8 Euro for old/hard bread)
Dinner and drinks were 200 Euros (would have been more if our appetizers actually...
Read moreThe Oceans Beach House continues with the name Oysterpearl. We were 4 adults and 2 kids 10y and 5y. My brother and wife visited us from Germany. After a nice welcome at 18 o clock the staff changed of shift. The food served lacked a lot. The service staff was not caring although there were only 4 tables in the whole restaurant. We ordered some bread and bittergarnituur for starters for the kids. The bread (7,95) was served with 6 pieces like 1/4 of a loaf of turkish bread (you buy this for 1,50 a loaf at a store) and a slice of garlic butter and some salsa. We told staff it was really too little for the price and after discussion they handed another serving of bread. After our starter plates were removed we had to wait for 1h15m for our maindish and only after asking for it after one hour they started noticing we had no food. (The girl says: yes we always wait for people in between until they ask for it... When I tell her it is normal to call kitchen for main after removing the previous course, she tells me she is working in hospitality in The netherlands for 3 years. I tell her I work in hospitality 25 years and this is not the case. Check with your management and never let kids wait so long for food!). After that we still have to wait a long time. I dont know but I think the chef had a really bad day. The rice of the pokepowl was overcooked porridge rice and the gambas were 6 pieces really really well done with a ready piece of some potatoe something. It was not good. It was the most expensive fish and chips (27,95) and mussle pan (also 27,95) ever. My daughter did not want new food, she was already too tired to eat. I ordered a carpaccio which tasted ok but was a very small version for the 14,95 charged. We had to wait for our drinks and ask again and again. The cold chocolate was a nutricia chocomel in bottle, the hot version, served to the same kids, was some bad powder version. But still 4,95 a serving. Shame on you. We paid 240,-euro for 4 people eating en 2 with an empty belly. I really hope you improve your food and lower your ridicoulous prices starting off tomorrow instead of ripping dayguests of their beachday...
Read moreWent to Oceans with a group of 8 people. Ambiance is good, food was good enough, however, the service was horrific. The terrace was not even packed, plenty of runners and waiters were running around but in a 3h visit we were served twice. When served the first time they brought half of the drinks and all the food. After 20min we had to call over staff to ask for the missing drinks, once discussed after 5min they came back to ask us again what our order was. Our table was full with unused glasses, empty bottles, empty drinks and empty plates. They came for the second round of ordering but didn't clean up the table. At some point one of the runners came, picked up an empty bottle, raised one of the clean empty glasses, placed it back on the table and just walked away to never come back. When we received our second round of drinks (again only 6/8) I asked for them to clean up the table. They collected only half of the glasses and bottles, not the plates. We placed them ourselves on an empty table and they were picked up in less than a minute. We had to ask again for our missing drinks and they had to confirm our order. The waitress was walking around eating ice cream while talking with the guests, when not having ice cream she was walking around with a drink in hand and when taking orders she placed the drink on the guest tables. At some point she forgot her drink and an empty bottle she picked at another table on our table. When asking to pay she tried to charge extra 10 euros as a tip (could be an honest mistake but with the level of service we received you never know). I understand many of the runners are temporary and employees get hot and tired, but for a place that Oceans tries to portray itself the service is worse than at McDonalds. Longer service times could be understood but...
