My friends and I had a really disappointing experience at O'Casey during one of the Euro 2024 matches.
We'd reserved a table for 8 pm for a group of ~12 people to watch the match, but the restaurant had double-booked it. This meant that we had to wait 45 minutes for the other match to finish before we could take our seats.
Fine. It's busy - things happen.
Then at 8:45 pm, a waitress comes to the table to take our food order. 20-30 minutes later, however, another waitress arrives to tell us that "the kitchen closed at 9," so they cannot place our order. Mind you, this is after waiting 45 minutes for our table. When I ask for a discount or some sort of other recompense, the waitress dismisses my request. She offers two baskets of crisps - for which we have to pay 12 euros. And still, no acknowledgement of the possibility that they should reopen the kitchen in light of their error. We left the bar - hungrily - before the match ended.
I've given two stars rather than one because a) the atmosphere of the bar would otherwise be quite fun if not for the rude service and b) the manager did acknowledge the error afterwards.
Tl;dr: It's fine to be busy, but not to the point where you cannot provide your customers basic,...
Read moreNot a bad expat pub. Good selection of drinks and there's usually no problem getting seats. Decent food too, but three stars because of the variable quality of the service. Some of the staff are really nice and helpful and will go out of their way to make sure you're catered for. But some (including managers) couldn't seem to care less. We came here with a large group and ran a single tab for simplicity, sat upstairs and ordered a good run of food and drink. The guy and girl who looked after us were really nice and helpful, but we ended up in a heated argument with one of the bar managers who didn't think four separate payments on a €300 tab was reasonable, after deciding to shut the upstairs area at 9pm and effectively force us (and other groups/couples) downstairs once we'd finished eating. Went to the Springbok up the road instead, where we're always looked after well! We'll leave it a while before we go back...
Read moreWe popped in here to watch the first half of a football match (for my husband) before our dinner reservation at another restaurant. But we loved the bar so much, we cancelled our reservation and stayed in O'Casey's for a few hours and ordered a superb burger and great drinks. This is a very authentic Irish bar, with wooden fittings that were shipped over from ireland that were from an old pub. The beer and cider has lots of traditional options and the music was an enjoyable mix of indie British music, mixed with traditional and modern Irish music (Dropkick Murphys/Pogues). The staff are so welcoming and the atmosphere is relaxed and family friendly. We visited in summer and there was a lovely, large outdoor terrace with seating, that stretches quite a distance and lots of attractive outdoor seating at the front of the pub too. Just a great bar, food and atmosphere that is...
