Coffee Leute Brauhaus — Restaurant in Utrecht

First of all this place tries far too hard to be hip, and in so doing has forgotten to be comfortable - a lot of the chairs are inches off the ground and not in arms reach of tables to put your drink down on.

Second of all, we approached from the Vaartsche Rijn station side and so walked in the left side of the venue. There was an employee making food in the back who saw us come in and sit down, but simply nodded to us before walking to the other side of the building. We sat, not realising there is no table service, for about 10 minutes before getting fed up and deciding to leave. On the way out we walked past the "main entrance" where the bar stood and realized our misunderstanding, but by that point we were so frustrated by the experience that we carried on walking. As long as the door on the Vaartsche Rijn side stays open, the signage really needs to be improved that you need to walk through the building and place an order yourself if you actually want any service.

I can see what they're trying to do, but basic attention to hospitality has taken a back seat to...

Ideal cafe right on the canal in downtown Utrecht. The place always has a great vibe, the folks running it are really lovely.

They love their coffee, so they're serving up some great specialty. When I was there they were serving up a couple of different Dutch roasters which was nice.

Also their baked goods are amazing. The lemon cake is really phenomenal, as are the brownie and the banana bread.

The interior is really comfortable for hanging out or working in, bunch of old eclectic furniture. If you're into it they have Super Nintendo and an N64 hooked up to tvs with some classics like Mario Kart if...

Absolutely my all time favourite coffee spot! I am obsessed with the double latte which comes in a cup that I can only lovingly describe as a soup bowl and it's the best. Koffie Leute is just my happy place. I come here to work, catch up with friends, have a moment of Zen or just to cheer myself up when I'm down because the coffee, lunches, treats, staff and ambiance here are nothing short of amazing. My favourite lunches? Eggs and avocado toast without the mayonnaise and the really good toastie with cheese, tomato jam and red onion. Favourite treats?
