Het Zaanse Bakkertje — Restaurant in Zaanstad

We had a lovely lunch yesterday among the scenic and historical corner of the legendary Zaanse Schans Windmill village in such lovely fall weather. A review is a must to pay back to the lovely pastries of Het Zaanse Bakkertje and at the same time lends others some comfort of mind to choose this place for lunch or little stop-over. Although in due respect, they open from 7am so they offer early breakfast. Unfortunately, closing is at 3pm and they only open Wednesday to Saturday so this can be a little hit and miss for the tourists if they arrive on the other days.

We had a Turkish pizza stuffed with lettuce and onions, a curry flavored and spinach Su börek, an omelette sandwhich with vey fluffy egg meat and a pumpkin spice latte which blends well with all the above flavors. All the savory pastries were a delight and I just love the Borek crust but a little less oil would be more appreciated.

The bakery offers a wide range of both vegan and non-vegan savory and sweet pastries and cakes and such a great selection of baguettes and bread and to compliment it all they also offer drinks.

Stopped in the morning on way to Zaanse Schans and had a lovely spinach n cheese borek and a salami and cheese sandwich and a Dutch almond cookie (gevulde koek) all very nice and so we're the ladies in the shop. Then stopped in again on way back to our campervan and I had twisted my ankle at the windmills, the lovely ladies gave me some ice and then wrapped my ankle with a bandage at No charge. Very grateful for their help and understanding. As soon as we walked into the coffee shop, we were greeted with genuine warmth and joy. Yvonne took the time to kindly explain each of the traditional Dutch treats on display, which made the experience even more special.
