I had a deeply disappointing and concerning experience at this restaurant, which unfortunately ended with a physical injury and extremely poor customer service.
As I was stepping down from the waiting area inside the restaurant, I severely banged my head on a low overhead panel due to insufficient headroom. The impact was strong enough that I began feeling dizzy within 20 minutes, and I’m still experiencing discomfort and a headache. The restaurant’s layout appears to pose a genuine safety risk to customers, especially if there are no visible warnings or padding to prevent injury. I am currently monitoring my condition and will seek medical assistance if it worsens.
In addition to the safety hazard, the overall dining experience was frustrating and unsatisfactory. I ordered dinner with my family, including: • Palak Paneer (€19.95): contained just 5–6 paneer cubes with around 50–80 ml of curry — essentially appetizer-sized. • Jeera Rice (€6): served in a portion that couldn’t have been more than 20 grams. • Kids Meal (€13): included 3 chicken pakoras, a few fries, and a tiny portion of flavorless rice.
After waiting 40 minutes, we were shocked by the extremely small portions — especially considering the high prices. I politely asked the waitress about it, but she mentioned she was new and couldn’t help, suggesting I speak to the manager. When I did, the manager offered no explanation, only saying, “Thanks for your feedback” and quickly walking away, avoiding the conversation entirely.
Later, when I tried to calmly explain my concern again — in Hindi, to a staff member who also spoke the language — the same manager interrupted and asked us to leave, again without addressing the issue. His attitude felt dismissive and discriminatory. It was clear he was more concerned about the European customers in the restaurant than treating us with basic courtesy or fairness.
I’m now back at my hotel feeling hungry, half full, and dealing with a persistent headache due to the injury at their premises. I’ll be speaking with legal counsel and looking into local options for reporting this incident further — both the physical injury and the discriminatory, unacceptable behavior from the manager/owner.

Appreciate taking time to respond to my review.
Regarding the injury, instead of showing concern or checking on my well-being after the incident, the emphasis is placed on suggesting it's my responsibility to be more cautious.
Given that the ceiling height is unusually low, it would be reasonable — and expected — to have visible warnings or padding on the frame to prevent such accidents. Without such measures, diners are at risk of injury, particularly if they are unfamiliar with the space.
I would like to express my deep disappointment with the way I was treated during my visit to your restaurant. I strongly condemn the unprofessional and unapologetic behavior of your manager, whose response to a simple question was not only rude but came across as discriminative. Such conduct is unacceptable in any hospitality setting, let alone one that positions itself as a premium dining experience.
I was shocked and disappointed by the portion size of the main course I was served. At €20, the quantity was unreasonably small — even some of London's most exclusive fine dining establishments serve more generous portions. This isn’t just my personal view; there appears to be a pattern, as many others have raised similar concerns. If a curry portion at that price is so minimal, I struggle to imagine what would qualify as a side dish.
Regarding any suggestion that I’m responsible for other 1-star reviews — I completely reject that implication. I speak only for my own experience, which was genuinely disappointing.
I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this matter privately. You should have my contact information from the table booking, and I welcome a follow-up at your earliest...
Read morePlease for the sake of good food and hospitality from staff DO NOT visit this restaurant. Buy yourself a sandwich or pizza or even a burger from Mc Donald but don’t waste your time searching this restaurant.
I recently had a very disappointing experience at Zaanse Kathmandu Kitchen. The food was below average, and the attitude of the waitstaff was extremely poor. The lady who took our order didn’t bother writing it down, and it took 50 minutes for our main course to be served. To make matters worse, they completely missed one of the orders. When we brought this to the lady’s attention, she casually admitted she forgot, and then simply walked away to attend to other customers without any apology or effort to fix the issue.
The rest of the staff were equally unprofessional, offering excuses like “we had more tables filled.” If you choose to seat 10+ tables but claim you’re understaffed, how is that the customer’s fault? I should have read the reviews more carefully, but the overall 4.4-star rating gave a misleading impression. I don’t understand how Zaanse Kathmandu Kitchen holds such a high rating. It seems like, due to the large number of customers, they’ve forgotten that each customer is important. Even on busy days, poor food quality and bad service will eventually drive people away.
I won’t be visiting this restaurant again, and I certainly won’t recommend it to any of my friends. I hope they get a reality check about their behavior and attitude before they lose more customers. Also, there was zero authenticity in the Indian food...
Read moreEncouraged by good reviews, we decided to visit this place for lunch during short visit in the Netherlands. The waitress had poor English skills and was very slow in service, showing no enthusiasm for her job - but everyone can have a bad day. We ordered two chicken noodle soups, tikka masala, and butter chicken. While the chicken with rice was edible, though bland and lacking Indian spices, the soups were a disaster. The soup, priced at 9 euros, seemed to be either a poor-quality instant product or the chef added potato starch or some other thickening agent (often used in cheap Asian fast-food joints), giving it the consistency of jelly.
The waitress approached during the meal and asked if everything was alright. I told her the soups were inedible. Due to her lack of English proficiency, she did nothing about it, did not apologize, nor informed the chef. My wife and daughter didn’t eat the soups, yet we were still charged for them, and no one seemed to care why the dish was left untouched. I am attaching a photo of the soup - it doesn’t look appetizing.
If this is the best Indian cuisine in this part of the Netherlands, as I read in the reviews, I am very disappointed. I certainly won’t return and, unfortunately, cannot recommend it. Additionally, the restaurant’s decor does not resemble that of Indian eateries and...
