Windmillhopper — Local services in Zaanstad

This boat tour is tucked back a bit behind a bike rental on the main path. Tickets weren't very expensive and it seemed like a fun way to sit and relax for a bit. We were so pleasantly surprised by this tour. My mom, sister and I were the only ones in our group, because of the time of day we went. Our guide could not have been nicer. He provided us so much information about the area, the history and the windmills. We stopped at one of the windmills and the people inside showed us how they made linseed oil at that mill. Then we looked at artwork made with the oil paints that use the oil from the mill. It was such a great experience.

This was one of the best things we did in Zaans Schans. I would do this tour again if...

Die Bootstour war unglaublich gut. Sowohl die Kartenverkäuferin als auch der Kapitän waren sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Wir haben unterwegs viel über die Windmühlen und die Region erfahren, wie sie früher war.

Für unsere Kinder waren Schwimmwesten vorhanden.

Sogar unser Hund durfte mitfahren.

Das allerbeste war allerdings der Umgang mit den zwei autistischen Kindern. Offen, freundlich und an jedes Kind angepasst. Mein Sohn durfte mit zum Kapitän gehen und war unglaublich faziniert und glücklich!

Das Boot wird übrigens ganz eng an den Steg gezogen und es gibt (bei Bedarf) eine helfende Hand beim Ein- und Aussteigen.

Wir können uns nur bedanken und die Tour jedem empfehlen!

De boottocht was ongelooflijk goed. Zowel de kaartjesverkoper als de gids waren erg vriendelijk en behulpzaam. We hebben veel geleerd over de windmolens en de streek zoals die vroeger was. Er waren zwemvesten voor onze kinderen. Zelfs onze hond mocht mee. Het allerleukste was echter de interactie met de twee autistische kinderen. Ze waren open, vriendelijk en behulpzaam tegenover elk kind. Mijn zoon mocht met de kapitein mee en was ongelooflijk gefascineerd en blij! De boot ligt trouwens heel dicht bij de steiger en er is een helpende hand (indien nodig) bij het aan- en afstappen. We kunnen jullie alleen maar bedanken en de tour aan iedereen aanbevelen!

The boat tour was incredibly good. Both the ticket seller and the guide were very friendly and helpful. We learned a lot about the windmills and the region as it used to be. Life jackets were provided for our children. Even our dog was allowed to come along. The best part, however, was the interaction with the two autistic children. Open, friendly, and accommodating to each child. My son was allowed to go with the captain and was incredibly fascinated and happy! By the way, the boat is pulled very close to the dock, and there's a helping hand (if needed) when boarding and disembarking. We can only thank you and recommend the tour...

We had such a great time on the Windmillhopper! Our group of seven went on the boat with Captain Raymond, and it was an absolute highlight of our trip. The boat was super comfortable, the atmosphere was relaxed, and the views of the windmills and the Zaanse Schans were just amazing.

Raymond was a fantastic captain — friendly, funny, and clearly passionate about what he does. Everyone in our group loved it, and we couldn’t stop talking about how special it felt to see the Zaanse Schans from the water.
