小南国上海餐厅 Shanghai Restaurant — Restaurant in Albert-Eden

I gave this restaurant a few chances as I had one nice experience with my takeaway meal. I have bought takeaway meals every time and sometimes had staff that can manage to speak basic English. I made my order and came back 20 minutes later just for the staff to tell me my order wasn't taken because there were many people but she definitely took my order after I pointed to the food I wanted, she gave me a order number then decided to ignore my order. That was very annoying like if were not chinese they don't care about our order??? This makes it difficult and uncomfortable to make a simple order for English speakers depending on staff, plus they cant take phone orders because they don't understand anything being said. The food quality is ok but the quantity for the price was not what I expected. I paid $27 for one sweet and sour pork container that wasn't even filled. Me and my son were still hungry after our dinner. I don't recommend this...

The food tasted pretty good. We ordered the potstickers, wonton soup and a plate of Shanghai noodles stir fry. However the food was quite pricey for what it is. The dumplings was $10 for 5 pieces, plate of noodles was around $18 which was pretty small quantity. The wonton soup was the only dish that was recently priced and the fillings was good and pretty authentic. I didnt like how the sauce bottles was quite empty, the chilli oil was also quite little at the front and the was too charred which doesn't taste good, so I only used vinegar. It was quite cramped seating. Their tea was quite mild flavour. Overall it was ok, probably wont come back as there are other similar restaurants on Dominion road that does...

The mid-aged woman (owner?) with glasses kept smacking flies right next to our table. Also, no customers were asked to scan their vaccine passes - serious risks to our hygiene and health. Flavours of the food were too salty and full of MSG - needed to drink tones of water. The scallion noodles were totally different from the picture and when we asked the same woman why there were no dried shrimps as in the picture, she pointed at us and began to raise her voice/yell to the point that the whole restaurant was quiet. A great way to treat customers and shut us up as obviously we won't talk back when the whole restaurant is...
