A Hidden Gem on Dominion Road

We’ve passed by Spicy House countless times and finally decided to step in – and what a delightful decision it was! This small restaurant has its unique charm: it’s compact, bustling, yet incredibly well-organized. Despite the busy atmosphere, the efficiency and attentiveness of the staff stood out. There were five staff members at the front counter, ensuring every request was promptly addressed and tables were swiftly cleaned and turned over for the next guests.

One of the most striking aspects of Spicy House is its diverse clientele. It’s arguably the only Chinese restaurant in Auckland where you’ll find more non-Chinese customers than Chinese, which speaks volumes about its broad appeal and the quality of its food.

Speaking of the food, it was absolutely delicious. The flavors were rich and authentic, and the beef was particularly noteworthy – tender and perfectly cooked. Each dish we tried was a testament to the culinary skills of the kitchen staff. The prices are reasonable, offering great value for the quality and portion sizes.

Really dissatisfied disappointed and unimpressed. Wish We kept walking straight past this place! Worst pork and chive dumplings I’ve ever had! If you love dumplings please don’t waste your time and money here! - the dumplings had the grossest fishy taste that my partner didn’t appreciate - specifically got these since he doesn’t like seafood. He couldn’t eat any of his dumplings and neither could I they tasted rotten!!! Worst chicken fried rice I’ve ever had -really poorly packaged and next to no taste Finally the black pepper beef was also a major flop - lacking flavour - no veggies apart from onion unlike most places I’ve got this with a range of veggies. For the price of these dishes they were the worst take out I’ve ever got especially Asian. Will be for sure telling people about my experience here. Spicy house used to be my absolute favorite place to go but definitely not anymore. Bought mild beef fried noodles and sweet and sour pork tonight. Pork was so tough and had a horrible taste. MILD beef fried noodles were SUPER SPICY!! Still tasted nice but I had to throw most of it away as I can't deal with too much spice, so was a complete waste of my money. How hard is it to make something mild? Its offered on the menu to have a mild option so why is this not being followed customers ask for mild? When ordering on the phone the lady obviously didn't understand me well as I said mild at least 5 times and my food still came super spicy. Customer service was questionable. When making the order on the phone i was asking the lady a question and she hung up on me. When I went to pick up my food the staff sat around and not one person said hello back to me when I greeted them. No thank you or goodbye.
