CONTROVERSIAL: IF THIS SECRET GETS OUT I WILL BE BANNED. You might not like what I have to say, and that's okay, but I have a feeling that you won't be able to resist when you find the answer. You WOULDN'T BELIEVE the secret hacks I found at this place. But before I reveal what the secret is, I need to share with you, my experience. So I have been eating here for some time now. In fact, what I liked most were the portions of food. These portions were so large that I wondered what the catch was... So I thought to myself, what's the catch? It can't be the price because $13 for a large bowl is cheap. Was it the flavour? *Slurps the soup and noodles* it's definitely not the flavour... Well I guess I'll never find out if there's a catch. All I knew was that if you were expecting a 5 star experience, you're on the wrong street, but if you want 5 star flavours, then you've come to the right shop. So my experience has always been good. Except for this one day. On this day I couldn't remember what exactly I would normally buy and I was exceptionally hungry. The waiter kindly waited for my order. I told her "I would like <blank> with <blank>". When I said it I had my finger pointing at the menu and I looked her dead in the eyes. when I told her, her eyes widened and her head jerked back, almost as if I had stumbled across something nobody has ever discovered. *NANIIIII?!!!* It was a moment out of an anime. Her eyes were blank, almost to say that they were speechless. She choked. In fact she had to ask me "are...you...sure?" I didn't know what I was getting myself into and she was unsure if I knew what I was getting myself into. Was this truly a new secret? Was it so secret that not even she knew it was a secret? Needless to say, the meal I got was of gigantic proportions and I may have stumbled across a secret menu. I CANNOT WAIT TO TELL YOU ALL ABOUT IT. The picture below shows a large bowl on top and below it is the one I bought from the secret menu. I can't tell you yet, but hey, if this gets 10k views I'll reveal my secret to getting a bowl of noodle soup SO BIG, you could fit your head inside. And guess what... You'll only pay $16 or less. Stay Suited

⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Consistently Great Noodles with Room for Improvement Shaolin Kungfu Noodle on Dominion Road in Mt Eden has become one of our regular go‑to spots for a satisfying noodle fix. We've been coming here for quite a while now, and while it's not perfect, it consistently delivers on what matters most: delicious, handmade noodles that hit the spot every time. This is a 回族 (Hui ethnic group) restaurant, which means it follows Halal dietary practices. So, don’t expect to find pork on the menu, and you cannot bring your own food – something to keep in mind if you're dining with a group that has mixed preferences. The menu itself is unchanging, which can be a good or bad thing depending on what you're after. For us, it’s comforting to know exactly what we’re getting, and the dishes we love are always available. The noodles are the star of the show – fresh, chewy, and full of flavour. Whether it’s the beef noodle soup or the dry noodle dishes, the quality is consistently high. You can even see the chefs working in the open kitchen, which is located right inside the restaurant. It’s fascinating to watch them stretch and pull the dough by hand – a real showcase of skill and tradition. That said, there are a few areas where the restaurant could improve. The tables and chairs are often oily, which detracts from the otherwise authentic and casual vibe. It’s not a dealbreaker, but a bit more attention to cleanliness would go a long way. The service can be hit or miss – sometimes warm and attentive, other times rushed or indifferent. It really depends on who’s working and how busy the place is. Despite these quirks, we keep coming back because the food is reliably good and the atmosphere has a kind of no‑frills charm. If you haven’t tried Shaolin Kungfu Noodle yet, I definitely recommend giving it a go – especially if you’re a fan of hand‑pulled noodles and bold, comforting flavours. Just don’t expect fancy plating or a rotating seasonal menu. This place is all about authentic taste and tradition, and it delivers that well.

I grew up eating and living this type of noodle back home so was thrilled to see that it has been brought over to NZ when these guys first opened, it's not as good as back home but it is getting pretty damn close. Classic dish, the lamb thick noodles, the broth is so fragrant, it's been on the boil for hours and you can really see it coming through in the colour. The noodles are top notch, hand pulled, thick, chewy, there is nothing I do not love about these noodles here, you can put them in anything and they will be delicious. Most of the variations here use the same type of noodles so you can expect a level of consistency, these guys also do all sorts of small side dishes which I strongly recommend trying out, they are all the same things we have back home in China, kind of like peasant food, but so delicious. Only mark down for this place is that their prices were very reasonable, but have gotten more expensive over the years, I think for what it is, it could be cheaper.
