Review on the taco van.. my husband & I have been SO excited to try for a long time (we have watched numerous videos on these tacos on YouTube channels for years) & finally seen the van parked up all week at our local so of course we scheduled in to go! We ordered & got told it was going to be a 1hr wait. We thought that’s ok as we’ve wanted to try for ages & didn’t mind grabbing a drink as we waited. Checked in at the 1hr mark and was told still 30-40mins to go.. went back after this and still not ready. We finally got the tacos at the 2hr mark. Pretty disappointing really on the wait.
Felt sorry for the 3 staff guys under the pump, they were friendly and nice considering they had lots of people waiting and getting impatient as time kept ticking on. I do hope tomorrow - Friday & then Saturday night they are more prepared or can pump them out quicker otherwise the staff are going to cop it off people along with your taco brand too. As you don’t mind waiting some time but end of the day it’s a popup food truck so I do wonder if you have the same wait problem at markets or events. We did notice door dash orders seemed to be happening at the same time, maybe this caused the huge wait time? Not sure but 2hrs for already prepared slow cooked tacos was a touch out of our patience zone as I’m sure you can also understand.
The tacos were tasty and had good favour thankfully after the wait. Out of the 7 tacos we ordered only 1 taco actually had coriander on it. Not sure if we will venture to try the city stores out again but glad we have finally tried the famous broke...
Read moreWe really, really wanted to love Broke Boy Taco, but it didn't live up to expectations and came away quite underwhelmed . The "Chasing a Plate" YouTube review of this place had us thinking it'd be amazing, but from our experience there, it wasn't. I loved the story behind it too, so I so so wanted to love it! On the positive side, clean and neat premises - and friendly, efficient staff. Can't fault that. But the tacos just weren't good value for money. For $30 for 4 (with avo & sour cream), it was small, there wasn't much meat (or avo or sour cream - tiny amounts of that), they were sooo greasy - oil dripping out of them - ew - and the meat, although tender, wasn't particularly tasty - nothing special. The sauces and the consome were really nice though - loved those. If the filling of the tacos was much more generous, and the flavour of the meat cranked up from a 3 to an 8+ out of 10, then I'd come back. We'll keep an eye on other reviews to see if it improves. Would love to come back if these things are addressed and resolved. You can do this...
Read moreFrom all the hype this spot had, I really wanted it to be good but unfortunately it did not deliver. Not sure if we just got a bad batch, but my partner ended up vomiting it all up after we got home as we suspect it was either the meat or it was just too oily. We got the Birria ramen and tacos, the ramen was terrible and watery. Very little flavour actually got into the noodles and the contents didn’t fit the dish at all, with large clumpy bits of meat and cheese in the ramen, really unappetising. Felt cheap and gimmicky like a watery birria with packet ramen put into it. The tacos themselves were also a let down in terms of flavour and presentation, we felt they lacked both spice and flavour, and the dish came out looking like they were preprepared and the fillings just flat tacked to the tacos with cheese. Refer to photo taken within the minute of it being served. I understand that the place is popular and busy but what a let down. This place doesn’t even come close to being a top taco spot in Auckland as much as I...
