Garden Court Brasserie — Restaurant in Christchurch

The restaurant is located inside Doubletree next to an internal garden. The view out to the garden was very nice and the hotel spends a lot of time to keep it looking immaculate. The inside of the restaurant on the other hand was not immaculate. Although it was not bad it was dated and could use a little maintenance to keep it looking sharp. In particular the carpets, tables and chairs looked dated and the chairs could use some modernizing. The maintenance was minor, such as spots that could use some paint to cover up some damage, such as an internal pillar near our table. Things like this could be easily fixed. The service was good, staff were friendly and efficient. All the staff were nice, but there was one slightly older female staff who was particularity pleasant. The food itself was nice, but nothing amazing. I got the lamb and enjoyed it, it was cooked very well however was just lacking a beautiful sauce or seasoning to make it amazing. My partner had the salmon and likewise enjoyed it but was not wowed. For desert I had the chocolate gateau. It was quite disappointing. The icing in particular just was not particularly nice and ruined the cake. A lighter icing(butter cream or similar) would have been much nicer. All the food was presented...

It was such a disappointing experience with this restaurant. It was Mum's 65th birthday yesterday. We were booked in originally for lunch six weeks ago, but we changed it to dinner 630pm a week prior. Then we received a message having booked in for lunch a few days prior. We phoned in again to double check booking has changed to dinner. Was assured by the same lady on the phone that its booked for dinner. Arrived early to the restaurant last night, was told that we are booked for lunch only. We were confused as we had phoned in to double check, and no one has phoned us during lunch time anyway to check why we aren't actually showing up for that mistakenly booked booking?? We thought this place would be an incredible experience for Mum but it turns out terrible. Service was trashy. It seemed like the waitress wants to close and finish early, 3/4 of the restaurant was empty. Neither she apologise to us nor she try to make it up for the bad experience for this booking. She just said she will set the table up FOR US. Thank you very much, i do not think this place deserves any rating. Owner needs...

Had the seafood meal for dinner, yummy!!! The service, once I received my glass of wine, water and dinner. I was left to enjoy my food which was nice. Usually you get asked how you meal is. I didn't get asked if I would like another drink. When my pate was taken I didn't get asked if I enjoyed my dinner. The plate was just taken away. I waited around half an hour after I had finished eating, didn't get asked by anyone if I would like to see the dessert menu. I then left. So the hotel could of made a little bit more money from me if I was asked if I wanted another drink or dessert. The resturant was not busy, nice quiet place for enjoying dinner. I did work in a 5star hotel previously so maybe I have a higher expectation of service or maybe my training was different. Beautiful...
