This is a good place to stay. Price was cheap compared to others. Location is good as well - lots of restaurants around (some are pricey though) and overlooking the park. We went for a run in the morning when the weather was nice. Also short walk to Christchurch Botanic Garden, which was really nice place to visit. From there you can easily go to Riverside market with lots of stores and food as well. Short drive from the airport. Room was huge. Bed was reasonably comfy even though ours was combined by 2 single beds. Bathroom was quite clean aside from the thing in the photo - must have not been cleaned for 2-3 years. Some other things that make this a 3-star: this shouldn’t be called a hotel- the hall looks more likea motel or hostel kind of thing. They rent the space to 2 Thai and Korean restaurants so their hall is now smaller than their standard room. they asked guests to park on the top floor (F floor when I was there - seems like it was G floor before) and the last path up to F floor is tinie tiny. Really hard to drive your SUV there. You’re in luck if you drive a small sedan or a small hatch. their Indian cleaning staff are not attentive at all. I asked them while they were cleaning the rooms next to mine to clean ONLY the kitchen sink, even put the note “pls service my room” on the door handle, then I went out for 5 hours just to comeback to see nothing was touched. I stayed for 2 nights so think I might be entitled for at least half a room clean service. this place is really old with dark carpet, small floor hall and everything so they deserve a better than average with their cleanliness...

We stayed two nights over a weekend and had an incredibly disturbing experience on our last night. While in our room, about 5.40pm, someone opened our door without knocking or calling out, saw us, then ran off down the hall and into another room or stairwell. The door requires a key card, so this was not an accident. We felt violated and unsafe.
We immediately went to reception, but the female staff member did not take us seriously until I became visibly upset and demanded an investigation. She promised to review CCTV and call that evening — no one ever called. At checkout, reception was still closed; I had to call myself for an update. I was told it “wasn’t their staff” but received no explanation, apology, or follow-up from management, even after requesting one in writing within 48 hours. Its now been 7 days, I warned them that'd i'd be leaving negative reviews and contacting head office if no contact was made.
This is completely unacceptable for an accommodation provider. The lack of urgency, professionalism, and basic guest care following a security breach is appalling. We left feeling unsafe, ignored, and deeply uncomfortable.

Read moreDo not recommend.||Starting with the positive, bed was an acceptable level of comfort (king bed that you almost can't notice the join, even though it was two smaller beds as is very normal in hotels).|Large room, which is great.||The negative.... Noone when we checked in even though reception is supposed to be open til 8. There's a phone in case reception is unattended, even the person on the other end of the phone said reception was open. |No cot in room even though I made damn sure to have confirmation it would be there so my sister didn't have to deal with that with a tired baby. This confirmation was not easy to get either, they were near impossible to get in contact with, didn't answer the phone and not good at replying to email.|Parking information extremely unclear.|No coffee in room.|WORST OF ALL, bathroom smelt like urine and had hair hanging around from previous guests.|Cleaners knocked on the door at 0930, even though check out is at 10. Most of the group had vacated their rooms, but unacceptable for those that needed the time to complete their morning routine (especially on a Sunday!)|Some in the group also complained of hearing a lot of noise through the walls (toilets flushing and water...
