We stayed here last night for Easter and although the room looked quite old and the washing machine wasn’t working, we thought it was going to be fine. The trouble is that while we were sleeping at night somebody broke in through the kitchen and took our wallets, backpacks and food we had in the fridge. Whoever broke in, went into our rooms and took our belongings deliberately while we were there. In the morning when we woke up and noticed what had happened we notified the police and the receptionist, and although she tried to help as much as possible, her manager and owner of the branch neglected us completely. We waited for several hours to be able to talk to the manager and she never replied. This is OUTRAGEOUS. We payed for a service, we thought it would be safe and there were people breaking in while we were sleeping! Nobody took responsibility for it. They said they didn’t have cameras and there was nothing they could do. But they were very eager to get us checked out ASAP and totally ignored us when the other guests were in the office. After waiting for 3 hours the manager, Amanda, texted the receptionist to let us know that they would talk to the insurance to see if they could refund what we spent for the room. She never called to apologise or ask how we were feeling or if we were ok. DO NOT STAY HERE. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Even taking away the fact that we were robbed, I cant believe there was a stranger in our rooms while we were sleeping going through all of our belongings, and the motel seems more than...
Read moreWe stayed here for a night in Feb 2017, to attend an International cricket match at Hagley Park Oval, so the location was good.|The motel itself seems to be preserved (I would say hermetically sealed, but it isn’t clean enough for that) exactly as it was on completion in about 1971. |As I grew up in the 70’s myself it was like a trip down memory lane. However unlike nostalgia, the room wasn’t all lovely and rosy. |The greasy patina on the table tops and chairs had genuine sticking power. |The kitchenette was fairly well equipped but I didn’t feel desperately inclined to use it.|The bed and mattress continued the theme of meticulous devotion to period detail and I suspect were also original, I hope the sheets weren’t, they weren’t nylon so that’s a good sign right?|The shower was similarly authentic!|All told it was a fascinating experience. Until time travel is definitively invented I doubt my millennial children will ever get a more authentic slice of late 60’s/early 70’s life. |I’d recommend a refurb but in a bizarre way that would be robbing Christchurch of a unique...
Read moreBe careful when booking here, no onsite managers, nearest help was 10min away, smoke detector was faulty and date of manufacture was 2005 making the unit 4 years over the ten year maximum for use. First Cheap Chinese 9v battery was flat and the second same brand battery was no better and made a poor connection and continually beeped. Staff although friendly, struggled with English and were unable to sort the problem! Due to the late hour, not being able to move my children, I ended up driving to a store open until midnight to purchase my own detector. The age of rooms and the dodgy wiring were of concern, the wall mounted heater was not working and on inspection the points on the plug were burnt, the wall socket was smashed on one side of plastic that is supposed to protect from electrocution, completely possible for a child to be get fingers to live cables. These owners are walking a fine line with peoples...
