Pillars Cafe — Restaurant in Christchurch

I just went in to Pillars Cafe for the first time and asked for a muffin to go. The young man who served me used tongs to get the muffin out of the cabinet, but then proceeded to use his hands to put the muffin in the microwave (even though I reminded him it was to go and he didn't ask if I wanted it heated) then used his hands again to cut it in half (again, for no apparent purpose, since he neither offered nor gave me any butter). Great atmosphere with outdoor seating in nice weather, & plenty of indoor seating. On street parking outside - or across Madras St in the Margaret Mahy Playground car park.

Very quiet cafe tucked away where the old church was, hence the name. The Pillars outside added a nice touch. Pet friendly . Unfortunately, the 2 staff members looked like they had just come from or on the way to a funeral . The half smiles seemed forced, and they didn't look that happy to be there, which added a chill to the atmosphere . That said, the coffee was the best I have tasted...
