Absolutely wonderful park with loads of play and public utilities for young and young at heart people. There are no shortages of callenging and casual areas where you could have fun or just sit back and relax. Word to the active people planning visit: wear silky or slippery trousers if you want to make the most of the slides, rubber shoes for active areas or slippers for everywhere else. There's also a spot where you can have a barbecue and picnic tables, even a place where you can go feeding. Parking space is ample but will be easily filled during peak hours, but worth the wait though. Toilet is just across the park with multiple neat and tidy stalls. Would recommend you come in late afternoon and beyond though if you really want to make the most of your trip. Have fun!

Great place for families right in the city. Parking is free during the weekends and there's a great bunch of restaurants down this street that has the tram run right through it. Skating area sometimes has hire skates for free and the girls there also are soooo beautiful, friendly and helpful. Music blasting and there is also food trucks that are pretty decent in pricing. Located near by is the river that has a waka and a boat rides for families. Christchurch is very family orientated. The park is sooo good for families. Brightly coloured and the water park adds the icing on the cake. Its very safe and heaps of places to rest and have coffee. Auckland has a lot to learn from christchurch. Very much alive but also very chilled out and I have considered moving there.

A fantastic and very popular family playground nestled in the heart of Christchurch, walking distance to the city centre. Massive playing area with lots of facilities for everyone to enjoy. Public toilets are available including wheel chair accessible toilets. There are food and beverage options like coffee, slushies, donuts and ice cream. This playground features a beautiful water play area as well as your usual climbing frames and even trampolines. I recommend a whole day for this playground, theres plenty of seating, its right next to the river and there is even free barbecues that can be used to cook lunch. Bring towels and plenty of sunblock!

Situated alongside Avon river, this more than 2 hectare playground is an endless source of fun and adventure to kids of all ages. It is named after Margaret Many, a much loved local author of children's books. It has a wide array of play equipment where one can slide swing, climb, crawl, run, glide etc. It has a 4 m wide slide, double flying fox swing, sand play, a crawler's tunnel, a tower, trampolines and others. There is a picnic and barbecue area, public toilets, car park and food carts serving hot and cold drinks and ice cream.

Amazing experience! Children aged from 8 to 11 had the time of their holiday in Christchurch! Water play was the best part (bing towels). Struggled to get the to come home... Not a bad thing. Only downside of the playground was lack of shade, seating for the adults and no picnic tables if you have brought a packed lunch. I would recommend bringing you family jere. Or just watching the spectacular view of parents chasing the young ones around when it's time to "get out of the water and go home".

Fantastic place to bring the children and have a fun day out, there is lots of different things for all ages of children or parents. Bring a towel for anyone that might want to get very wet playing at the different water activities. There is car parking right beside the park. There is also different food and drinks carts that have a good selection. Toilets are available on site. One thing that really impressed me was how clean the whole area was and everything was in working condition.

Description
The Margaret Mahy Playground – Tākaro ā Poi is a playground in the Christchurch Central City on the banks of the Avon River. Following the 2011 Christchurch earthquake, the government's Recovery Plan had a "city-wide family playground" as one of the elements of the East Frame.
