Good place, cosy, slightly out of the main CBD .
Staff very efficient and friendly. Service was quite quick.
The breakfast that I ordered was fairly disappointing. I would recommend that the three small processed sausages would be better to be replaced by one large quality one equal to the price point of the three.
The microwaved mushroom were not very good, dry and tasteless, maybe better fried from fresh if possible.
The bread would of been nice but unfortunately the poached eggs were not drained enough and soaked it, making it mushy and unpleasant.
I would recommend losing an egg on this breakfast and having something else to replace it at the same price point as two are not really needed with the inclusion of the amount of bacon and sausage.
My partner ordered Eggs on toast, unfortunately it came as two chunks of toasted bread next to two poached eggs again not drained enough and not "ON" the toast as advertised.
Again, disappointing and not being as advertised on the menu. If you say eggs "on" toast, then it should be presented as such.
The coffee was adequate but a bit on the cool side, as was the food. Heating the plates and cups would be recommended in my opinion.
However dispite these shortfalls it's a place I would...
Read moreIt was time to meet friends for breakfast and a catch up and given it was at least 6 months ago since I was last at "Table at Monks" I thought it was time to revisit. On this particular Saturday morning it was busy, I'm pleased I had booked. Starting off with coffee it was served promptly and by a very pleasant waitress and after 5 minutes of general chitchat with our friends we were asked for our orders. Eggs Benedict x 3 and 1 Sauteed Mushrooms on Polenta arrived at our table after 12 minute wait, pretty reasonable for a busy dining room. We all enjoyed our respective meals and I have to say the Egg B was one of the best I have had in recent times, fresh eggs, tasty bacon and H sauce couldn't be better. My only criticism is it is a noisy building when filled with happy diners but that wont stop me from going back again. Definitely...
Read moreOn our last morning in Christchurch, we found this gem of a cafe. Coming in off the street, we were greeted by the owner, and found a warm corner table.
The atmosphere was amazing. Real plants, quiet lo-fi music, and the gentle sound of voices. The cafe has a selection of lovely magazines to read, and it really makes the space feel alive.
I ordered the eggs and toast (scrambled eggs), with tomato relish, baked tomato, ciabatta, and grilled haloumi. Possibly the best breakfast I've ever had outside of my own home. The flavours worked so well together. I also ordered the Spices Chai, half-strength, on soy milk, and it was absolutely perfect.
Staff were super friendly, helpful, and very polite. I'd highly recommend this cafe to anyone staying in or near the CBD, and when I come back to Christchurch, I'll definitely be...
