Rollickin Gelato (New Regent St) — Restaurant in Christchurch

Shockingly poor customer service. No communication between serving staff at all, even when they are standing right next to each other.

Also, we tried to order brownie & ice-cream, were told it was fresh out of the oven, so it would be a 15 minute wait. Staff took our payment & we duly waited 15 minutes. When we then went to collect our brownie & ice-cream, we were told that it wasn't ready yet & they couldn't put a time on when it would be.

We gave it another 10 minutes & went again to see if it was ready, but it still wasn't! We were given a refund, but there is no getting back the 25 minutes we wasted waiting.

Good customer service would have been to offer us at least a complimentary scoop of ice-cream by means of an apology, but there was no such offer. Whilst I was trying to offer feedback, the staff member just talked over me.

The other gelato that we got, the hazelnut was lovely, but the chocolate was average, just like any other ice-cream you can get from the supermarket.

Overall though, our visit was ruined by our wait & lack of customer service. We will not be returning. All the staff here need to go on a intensive customer...

Last night I went to buy gelato and ordered berries and Hokey Pokey ice cream with berry sauce topping in a cone.The clerk was lovely at the time and I paid the bill without incident.After a few bites later, my boyfriend dropped the entire ice cream portion on the ground.When I asked the clerk to buy just the Hokey Pokey again, I asked if I could have the ice cream again on top of the cone that I had not dropped.The clerk took the cone, threw it away, put some syrup on the cone and asked what flavour the dropped ice cream was, to which I replied Berry and Hokey Pokey.After putting the two on the cone, the bill was the price of a regular two-scoop ice cream. The second ice cream had chocolate topping, not berries, and I had only ordered the Hokey Pokey to begin with.I think it was my fault for not understanding the situation and paying the money as it was and coming out, but I also think the clerk was at fault, especially as he didn't even listen to me. I ended up paying for the same ice cream twice...

Visiting Rollickin on a Friday night, with the amount of fresh-faced teenagers giddily lined up for their sugar-rush it felt a little like walking into a daycare! Demographics aside the reason for its popularity was obvious. A sweet array of delicious gelato was presented in a funky, stripped-down interior with plenty of outdoor seating for summer dining.

On this occasion I sampled one of their mug-cakes with gelato, enjoying a coffee with my friend who ordered the hot chocolate. The staff at this hour seemed a little harried, many of the flavors seeming to be running dry or low. When eventually I got to order, the drink and the dessert took a fair while to arrive.

My coffee was thin and under-extracted, a miss rather than a hit; but the cake was thankfully moist, very often mug cakes can be dry and stodge, but the berry gelato on top lifted it nicely.
