One of the interesting areas to visit in the town centre is Victoria Square. We enjoyed viewing monuments here during our recent visit to Christchurch. Here you can view several interesting monuments like the Queen Victoria Statue, Capt. James Cook Statue, the H.L. Bowker Fountain and the Maori Monument. The historic Victoria Bridge, a stretch of the Avon River and some nice flowerbeds can be experienced at Victoria Square. Give the square 15-20 minutes of time enjoying the attractions here. Then carry on with other intended sightseeing in the town centre area.

Formerly Market Square, Victoria Square was named to honor Queen Victoria. It is the main square for gatherings and protests and festivals and yes, they still host markets here. You'll find the Buskers Festival and the Chinese Lantern Festival here. Bordered by Armagh Street and Colombo Street, the square has a number of artworks including the Captain James Cook statue, Queen Victoria statue, H. L. Bowker Fountain, Hamish Hay Bridge (the country's oldest cast iron and stone bridge) and more. There are benches and picnic tables and pedestrian/cycle paths.

Well designed and maintained city park. It’s located between the Town Hall and Convention centre, so a good place to take a walk either before or after you join some events. I have only been here a handful of times after living in Christchurch a few years. I definitely will come to here and walk around more often.

Such a beautiful place for a walk or just stopping for lunch. Beautiful walks along the river surrounded by nature at it's best. The gardens are well maintained and so colorful. A little walk from here will take you to a whole lot of eatery places and bars. A must visit for this place. Placed just out back of the main city is a perfect escape from...
